Has anyone ever had problems arise during their NP program because of past disciplinary action? Any problems with credentialing or getting a job after graduation?
I'm a FNP and in the NPDB for suspension/probation of my RN license years ago. I also have a DEA license. It hasn't been difficult to get jobs, but when you go through credentialing you have to disclose any previous disciplinary actions. Remember addiction (if that's your story) qualifies you for ADA protection against discrimination. All I ever have to do is turn over a short two paragraph synopsis of what happened, and the BON diversion program discharge letter showing successful completion. I've never been denied.
Hey @LibertyTX! It sounds like we are in a very similar situation, I was wondering if you could let me more about experiences with the BON, did you have a lawyer? I just failed a pre-employment drug test for my first job as a new graduate. I haven't heard yet if they will be reporting me to the BON but most likely they will I have no addiction just made a dumb mistake. Thank you!
No, I didn't get a lawyer. I don't think it would have made a difference for me. If you are in Texas, they will offer you EEP. Do it and DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL. I made that regrettable choice and ended up with a formal Warning. Thankfully, it will all be over in a month! Let me know if you have any other questions.
I have past discipline and I'm at Walden. Applied at another but Walden didn't even ask about my past history. HOWEVER, when I get a preceptors I have to disclose plus I need insurance and as an rN I have been turned down by about every company. Anyone who has been faced with these hurdles have any advice?

Being in the Natl Prctitioners Dta bank isn't necessarily a contraindication to getting a job. You can be placed there for many reasons
