Ours is 5 patients. If we are lucky we have 4 and will be sure to get the first admission from the
Emergency departnent. Sometimes we have 6 also.

In our SNF, the nurse/patient ratio is 1:20 on short-term rehab and 1:30 on long-term.

And they expect us to do primary care. (Unit has 18-22 pts usually... 1 CNA for the entire unit.)
BTW, this is on a neuroscience/CVA unit, also get a lot of the confused LOL who crawl out of bed q 15 minutes.

It depends on the ward--we are a psych hospital with some wards housing 28 pts, others housing 18. Our ward has 28 pts:day shift has 2 RNS, 1-2 LPNs, 3-4 techs. Eve shift has 1 RN, 1 LPN, 2-3 techs. Night shift has 1 RN, 1 LPN, and 1 tech.

The goal on our med/surg unit is 1:8 but have known it to be as high as 1:14-16 during the winter months, usually 2 - 3 techs assisting. If the census gets down to 1:6 the administration wants someone called out.

suppposedly --> one ; eight, on a tele floor
but it seems to be the standard lately that it's one; nine. (grr)
we do make sure our concerns are heard each time this happens - it is unsafe as well as frustrating

aA safe ratio is 6:1, but I am dreaming to think that will ever happen where I work, I have had days where I have 12 patients and no other help other than a ward clerk/ aide, ya those are fun days, yes I do protest the asighnment but I never see any changes, at least I am covering my but.
