Hi Welcome to allnurses!! WHereabout sin Orlando are you planning to go? I am in Vero Beach on the East Coast of Florida...been here a year and enjoying it....

Not sure what rates of pay are in Orlando though...

there are a few teachers on there who may be able to help you

if you tell them you want to go to live in florida they may burn you at the stake!!! but if you do a search you may be able to find out about teaching in the US

For any nurse that has moved to florida,what has been easy and what has been difficult?Is it realistic for a family to manage on one wage for a while?

Good luck on your move but a quick question on whether you have applied with Florida BON to sit NCLEX and also how long ago did you train as you may be a bit short is some hours if recently trained?

Yes, as SD said, you need to check out the stickies & threads about hours etc.

Also I think you might be better off applying for N-CLEX/ATT through Vermont or New Mexico & then transferring your license over once you have been offered a job because I think FL processes through Texas & is notoriously slow - not as slow as California - but definitely slow!

Anyhow you've a while to go before then so just keep ahead of the game & be prepared for a long haul with more paperwork & waiting then you can imagine!! XXX

Is there a particular reason for Orlando? It's a HUGE area and I'd imagine more expensive to live there. I have relatives there and north of the city in Sanford and Deltona.

:balloons: We have picked Orlando because we have visited twice and have two small children, so we thought the weather and loads to do was a good reason to move.We currently live on a tiny island in the middle of the irish sea.It is very expensive place to live,very windy and as a family we have just got bored of doing the same things.I have loads of nursing experience,so not quite sure what I,m going to get my teeth into out there.I hear nursing on icu is different because you have ventilator techs and people to carry out patient cares,as we are used to doing everything.I have thought about going back to haemodialysis,anybody currently doing that in states?

Hi, I think you should explore the possibility of looking other than just Orlando. Whilst you have visited twice and think it is nice to be in this area with your kids....the rest of Florida does have a lot to offer. I live on the East Coast in vero Beach. I live within 10 mins of the beach and Causeway. I live within 1 1/2 hours or Orlando (if we so wish to take the kids to Disney). It is an 1 1/2 to Daytona. 3 hours to the west coast. We like where we live as there is a low crime rate and the pace of life is slightly slower. I personally would not want to live in the Entertainment capitol of Florida..I went there for 3 days back in August when I had family over and it was nice and felt like a vacation, but it was nice to come back to Vero too. Knowing that Disney is only an hour and a half drive away makes it feel more special when we visit there......so dont rule out other possoibilites here....(plus living in the Orlando area is a little more expensive)

Next time you come on vacation explore different areas and plan around what suits you as a family.

From my limited experience the hospitals love British nurses! Your experience will be great here. You get paid for the years experience you have...i.e. I have 16 years expeience (almost 17) and when I started at this hopsital they took that into account even though I had been out of the hospital enviroment for over 12 years.....
