Nurse Managers: Showing initiative, or being creepy?

Hello all! I am a new grad nurse spending my days filling out application after application, and I have a question for any nurse/hiring managers or recruiters who may be out there (any anyone else's opinion is welcome, too!).

If you've spoken with an applicant on the phone and given them your full name, would you find it weird if they sent you a request to connect on LinkedIn, or would that give you the impression that they really have an interest in this job and are trying to be proactive?

I feel like I don't really know much about "LinkedIn etiquette," but I am trying to do anything possible to keep my name on these managers' brains so that hopefully I'll be getting a call with a job offer soon! But I also don't want to cross any boundaries and come across as kind of a creep...

As a manager I never used Linked In or any other social media/networking platform. Our recruiters would sometimes look up a person's social profiles as part of the vetting process but I personally never did. However, our recruiters vet the person and do a phone screening before I ever received the application so I had no reason to dig into their social media accounts as the recruiter had already provided me with any of that information.

I cared more about their resume, the person showing up on time for the interview, and being dressed appropriately.

I think LinkedIn can be a useful tool for nurses, but on in the way you describe. I have a very professional LinkedIn (thorough, well-written personal statement, lots of connections, not linked to any other social media sites), and I include the link on my resume in case people want to check it out because I'm proud of what I've posted. Over the years I've gotten a lot of requests from nurse recruiters regarding jobs in my preferred specialty via LinkedIn; I think it's nice to know who is hiring, the approximate base salary, and what signing bonuses they're willing to offer (which is info that may not be offered up if you just check the hospital website).

That said, I think most managers (especially those who don't really use the site) would find a request creepy. Like I said, I give them the link to my site in my header of my resume, but I let them take the initiative to look it up if they want to (I'm guessing most don't anyway, but it's there just in case).

I wouldn't send a Linkedin request anymore than I would send a FB friend request.

Thank you all! I appreciate the insight. I agree that if I were on the receiving end I’d probably find it a bit off-putting...just wanted to make sure I’m not alone there, haha! Cause really at this point I’m ready to try ANYthing to get hired.

As a manager, it would make you a solid no. Creep factor would be high for me. Also, do not show up unannounced or uninvited by manager either. Some suggest it on here. Managers will generally redirect you to HR, which is online in most cases.

Just put your LinkdIn info on your resume. They will follow up as needed
