hello everybody! last week i had my interview in the us embassy, manila philippines. now, i am waiting for my k1 visa and soon i will be in the us. my concern is how i will be able to get a job right away? i'm a us-rn already. i have passed the nclex-rn, cgfns and ielts exams & i have a one and a half years of experience in the renal dialysis unit. from what i know employers need ead (employment authorization document) before they will allow a foreign national to work. are their nursing agencies/hospitals who are willing to help me get the ead? what advice can you give me in order to get a job fast? i really want to work right away since i don't want to be alone:no: in the house waiting for the soon-to-be husband while he's at work. i want to be busy right away. your insights will be highly appreciated. thanks!:wink2:
Since all of your documentation has been in your maiden name, apply for the endorsement with that and then once you have the license in hand as well as marriage license, submit for the name change. This will make it easier for you since your immigration documentation is also in your maiden name right now. Always easier to get things done with it all under the same name.
It is always best to keep everything with what is on your passport as well until you get that changed.
Best of luck to you on your upcoming marriage.

Very true, We had some issue by changing fiance name to married name.
Don't do a name change until you have some kind of state or govt issued ID with your married name on it.
For Driver Licenses and State Issued ID each state has different requirements
Hello everyone! Sorry, I was not able to check this site and didn't know that there's a lot of replies already. Thanks for the advises! I highly appreciate it.I am here in Washington DC now and starting the AOS paperwork. The volunteer idea seems good for me. I might do that. Now, I have another question. My NCLEX-RN license in Vermont will expire on March 2009. My fiance and I will get married on the 8th of Jan. 2009.
You need to file for AOS (Adjustment of Status), EAD (Employment Authorization Document), AP (Advance Parole so you can travel outside of USA)
My wife recd this email yesterday from USCIS:
Application Type: I765 , APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION
Current Status: Card production ordered.
On January 3, 2009, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case.
Time frame after filing was 60 days for EAD, and EAD card usually takes about 7 days to arrive via mail after email.
As of date we have not done a interview with USCIS in USA.

Hi! I would like to ask if how long did it take for the EAD to be approved. You mentioned that the time frame after filing is 60 days, but did it take longer or earlier than 60 days?
I posted a thread here a few weeks ago asking about application for AOS and EAD. I was told that USCIS is not accepting or approving these applications because it is affected by retrogression. I was able to talk to someone who applied for AOS (still pending) and EAD which is approved. I was just bothered by this because I have a US tourist visa (been to US several times) and with pending I140. I just want o keep my options open. I need more info on this and will be very much appreciated.
Thanks!:)

It took 63 days after filing before it was actually in her hand (EAD and AP) delivered via U.S. Postal Service.
USCIS is still and will always accept an AOS and EAD, it my wife right thru me because I am an American Citizen.
They will never limit the number of Visa's for K1, they process all they recieve. Always have and always will.
If you are on a Tourist Visa then you have different set of rules to play by, But please note my fiance/wife now if from Philippines and on a K1 aka Fiance Visa.

As Redranger posted his wife came over on a K1 there are different rules there when applying for AOS. If you come over on a tourist visa and find e employer and want to stay and work then you can not AOS. I140 has to be current to do that.

Hi! I know that Redranger's wife went to US with K1 visa so it maybe a different story with mine. My boyfriend is an American citizen and that's why I am planning to move to the US.
I was just bothered because my agency gave me the advise to visit US and apply for AOS and EAD. They said it would be faster that way. I already have an employer and applied for my I 140 which was received last nov. What do you mean with current I140? Is it filed and pending or approved?
I was able to talk to couple of nurses with the same agency and they are already working now. They came to US with tourist visa and applied for AOS and EAD. So thats why I am confused.
Maybe just to be sure, I will ask advice from an immigration lawyer.
Thanks so much for the time and info.

Definitely speak to a immigration lawyer but as you have described it you can not come over and AOS. For AOS visa for EB3 has to be current. I would be wary of agency as you haven't been able to AOS since Oct 06 apart from a very small window in July 07 of a couple of week. The ones that say they have done it I think may be working illegally although they may not know it. Once your I140 has been approved you are affected by retrogression and if filed in Nov 08 then that is your PD and there are thousands in the queue ahead of you
