Nurse Extern Interview at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago

I have a 1:1 interview with Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago for a summer extern program. I went through the HR phone interview, but am now flying to Chicago to interview with the unit manager. I don't know how this is going to go, and have read varying things on interview questions etc. Has anyone ever interviewed with them before? What was it like, and what did they ask? Also, has anyone ever done this program before and if so did they like it? THANKS!

I just saw them post the 2012 externships. When did you apply? How long did it take HR to contact you?

I am applying as well. I hope to hear back from them soon. I did not choose neuro but if I were you I would look up certain disease processes you commonly see so you can sight your interest in them and why its important to have specialty care in this area.

I'm flying out this weekend to interview in person! The HR phone interview was not that bad - the questions they asked were pretty much the ones mentioned above: why this unit? describe a time something went wrong and what you did to correct it? why did you choose nursing? etc.

I'm pretty nervous about the in person interview though. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Heynurse,

How long did it take for the HR to contact you after submitting your application? i have submitted mine around 3 weeks ago but I still hear nothing! Online though it says my application is "under consideration" and is still active. Should I call them? What did you do? :)

I would love to know how long it took for HR to respond as well!

When I applied online HR called me literally the next day to do the prescreen. I was shocked and unprepared so needless to say I didn't make it past that to the in-person interview. I found out approximately 3 weeks after that that I wasn't going in. Fortunately I secured another extern position recently or I'd be kicking myself for answering that call!

Thanks for the response! I actually got an email from them after over a month telling me I didn't get the externship.

But like you, I got another externship (my first choice, actually!) in Chicago! Congrats on getting an extern position!

Is the extern position in Chicago? If so, maybe we are in the same extern program!? :)

I got my fist choice too, so I wasnt that broken up about it :). Mines at children's memorial. Where's yours?
