Nurse Educators, Introduce Yourselves!

Published

Welcome to the Nurse Educator Forum. It is my desire that you find this a warm, inviting place and will come here often for friendly, collegial discussions.

Let me introduce myself: I have been an ADN nurse educator in a small community college in North Carolina for the past two years. My areas of specialty are medical-surgical, OBGYN and immediate newborn, and cardiac nursing. In addition to teaching, I conduct clinicals on general medical-surgical, PEDS, postpartum, and cardiac step-down units. Along with being a full time nursing instructor, I am working on my Masters in Nursing Education. I am enrolled in a fully online curricula and have been very satisfied with this so far.

I have learned much these past two years but, I have so much more to learn! I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi,

I"m a LVN in california that is a clincial and theory instructor for a LVN program. I've been lurking on here for a while, started when i taught CNA's and would just like to say thank you for all the wisdom I've gotten and the resources.

hello,i work in zagreb,in clinicall for lung diseases on department for lung hipertension;and teach patient how to use us inhalator and pump for remodulin, but not only patient also and their family and stuff in hospital. every monday we have education for nurse and it is important to teach them and prepare to do work on the best way.i would like to teach more, but in my country i dont know were...

Tomorrow I interview for the position of Director of Clinical Education for a Nursing home/rehabilitation facility.I am a 2 year-old RN and I have been a Night Nursing Supervisor for the last year. I just got my MBA in Healthcare Administration. I have some experience teaching as a tutor at the local community college, helping students with nursing prerequisites (Bio, Chem, A&P) and nursing courses for the last 4 years. I am pretty good and patient with people.

This position is being vacated by a friend and grad. classmate who has seen me both in the classroom and at work. She highly recommended me for the position. She feels I will do very well. This position is partially HR, doing interviews and orientations. It is partially making sure all annual competencies are getting completed, licenses/PPD and annual vaccinations are up-to-date, doing in-service training and occasionally taking a floor when staff is very short. I think I could rock this position, however some things I have yet to have an opportunity to do clinically or have had very little practice. How can I teach others when my experience is so limited? I keep coming back to that old horrible idiom "those who can do, those who can't teach."

My dream is to run my own business in healthcare in the next 5-10 years. I have a business plan and am just looking for opportunities to expand my experience and knowlege in running a healthcare service. I think this position is a good move as I need the HR background to hire and train people. But, do you think I lack the experience clinically to make it work? Your input would be appreciated!

Thank YOU!

I have been an RN since 1984. My goal was to obtain my Master's degree before 50. Because of online education, I accomplished that goal. The last two years I jumped out of my comfort zone and began teaching in an ADN program. Wow... I know this is where I should be otherwise I would have sprinted back to the hospital. My background is Pediatrics. The first year teaching didn't include any courses in Pediatrics. My 4th semester is almost complete. I now have taught Med/Surg, Foundations and Pediatrics including clinical rotations. I am looking forward to having a solid foundation in these areas. Jumping out of my comfort zone into areas I spend hours studying and still not feeling competent is the most difficult part of this process. The most wonderful part is knowing these last two groups of nursing graduates have experienced my passion for nursing.

Welcome, suniday! Thank you for imparting your knowledge and passion for nursing with the next generation of nurses :)

I have been a member of allnurses for years, yet I have never come across this thread.

I am an instructor at a fairly large university in Wisconsin. We are the only university to have an ADN, BSN, and MSN program in the state (although the city I live in has 11 nursing schools.) I received my MSN in nursing education and I primarily teach BSN completion students which I love to do.

I am so happy there is a section for us on this site. I sometimes feel like I am alone out there when talking about teaching theory or teaching methodologies. Glad I have some other people in my field that I can't come to for advice!!!! :)

Welcome msn10!

There's another private group you might be interested in joining. It's the Nurse Educators' Networking Hub. You have to send a message to an administrator to get access to it, along with some method of proving you really are an educator.

Hello to all:)

I am a registered nurse with eight years of nursing experience. I am teaching CNA and LVN students at this time. I will start MSN/Edu in fall this year. Can I teach at a university level in IL after getting my MSN. I want to eventually get in FNP program also. Please advice me what are my career options. I have oncology and long term care experience. I have a BSN.

Thank you:)

I graduated with A.S.N. in 1980. My desire was to become a Nurse-Midwife. For practical reasons, I worked both L&D & Med-Surg at a small hospital. After a lot of practical hospital experience, I got my B.S.N. while continuing to work in the hospital. I heard about Home Health Case Management while obtaining my B.S., and that became my goal. I did that for 7 years, then worked as the RN for our local Adult Day Health program (2 years). Now, I am training HHAs, and working on curriculum and CEUs for CNAs & HHAs.

I love writing & teaching CEUs, & would like to become an authorized provider as an individual (right now I am writing & teaching for my training center).

I look forward to communicating with peers!

Hello fellow educators, I coordinate the nursing skills lab at the community college where I work. I found it difficult to keep all the bulletin boards in the lab with something educational on them so I made some posters. I would love to share them with you. Hello All!

I'm a relatively new educator (just about 1 year under my belt since graduating with my MSN last December!) My nursing background is in OB (L&D, Antepartum). I held my ASN for 13 years before returning to school and pursuing my BSN and MS in Nursing with a focus in Education.

I'm getting ready to accept an offer to be a full-time instructor - among other things, I will get to continue my work in Simulation (which I stumbled into while in school and fell in love).

I've enjoyed reading all the great posts and resources here, and hope to also join up in the Networking Hub group to expand my connections with other educators. I'm looking forward to sharing with others here, too.
