Nurse Educators, Introduce Yourselves!

Published

Welcome to the Nurse Educator Forum. It is my desire that you find this a warm, inviting place and will come here often for friendly, collegial discussions.

Let me introduce myself: I have been an ADN nurse educator in a small community college in North Carolina for the past two years. My areas of specialty are medical-surgical, OBGYN and immediate newborn, and cardiac nursing. In addition to teaching, I conduct clinicals on general medical-surgical, PEDS, postpartum, and cardiac step-down units. Along with being a full time nursing instructor, I am working on my Masters in Nursing Education. I am enrolled in a fully online curricula and have been very satisfied with this so far.

I have learned much these past two years but, I have so much more to learn! I look forward to hearing from you.

hi,

i am new to the forum and a nurse educator for more than 30 years in hospital nursing programs, junior college, and private sector..now own school. Educators are great but a few of you are right...there is a shortage and "us" babyboomers are going to be throwing in the clip boards soon and we need for others to come along and help the shortage.

It has to be more interested educators out there...it is very rewarding to mold and shape the minds to being "safe".....but you have to have the "patience" of JOB.

Hello,

I am a full time Nurse Tutor at an ADN program. I am looking anyone who is doing this. My original position is grant funded for online learners but may become permanent as my customer base is more traditional students.

I work with students with skills, clinical probs and academic probs. I work with students at all levels. Most of what I do is along the lines of coaching for better study skills, test taking strategies etc. At times I provide content review sessions in preparation for exams. I work very closely with primary instructors as a support mechanism. At times I assist in developing simulated lab experiences. If anyone is out there.... let me know and let's network!

Thanks,

the tutor

This is so interesting, as we are looking for ways to improve student retention in our program, and one-on-one tutoring was proposed. Unfortunately, we have no funds to adequately support such a program and we have no qualified nursing tutors. If you don't mind me asking, what is your educational background and what grant is providing funding? Is this an ongoing project, or a pilot program? Are there any more such grants available? Has there been improvement in the school's retention rate as a result of your efforts? Thank you so much for any feedback :)

welcome to the forum, glogodschild :balloons: we are so glad you are here and look forward to sharing ideas with you.

you have to have the "patience" of job.

truer words have never been spoken :) i agree also that we desperately need an infusion of young recruits into nursing education, as most of us are near (or past) retirement age. i do my best to encourage promising students to choose nursing education as a future option.

hi everyone,

i am new to this site, just discovered it yesterday, but very happy with what i have seen so far!

i am a clinical nurse educator for two very busy medical units, and look after the education for over 100 rns and lpns. there are many challenges as 75% of our nurses are novice (less than 2 years experience), so i am busier than i can believe! i plan to begin graduate studies in september, and then one day return to teaching at one of the local colleges/universities (previously taught at a college). i look forward to reading your postings!
