Nurse Educators, Introduce Yourselves!

Welcome to the Nurse Educator Forum. It is my desire that you find this a warm, inviting place and will come here often for friendly, collegial discussions.

Let me introduce myself: I have been an ADN nurse educator in a small community college in North Carolina for the past two years. My areas of specialty are medical-surgical, OBGYN and immediate newborn, and cardiac nursing. In addition to teaching, I conduct clinicals on general medical-surgical, PEDS, postpartum, and cardiac step-down units. Along with being a full time nursing instructor, I am working on my Masters in Nursing Education. I am enrolled in a fully online curricula and have been very satisfied with this so far.

I have learned much these past two years but, I have so much more to learn! I look forward to hearing from you.

I teach as the Pediatric/PICU educator for a university medical center full-time as well as teaching students for an ADN program. Both are challenging. I don't know if I could keep up the pace if I did not have my nursing students. They are inspirational with their thirst for all that is offered them.

What on-line MSN programs look good? I am wanting to pursue my MSN and would appreciate any suggestions on good programs. Thanks!

Hello to all! I'm so gald to find this forum! I've been a nurse for over 20 years. I started out in med/surg, psych, community health, and for the past 2 years, I've been a Hospital Nurse Educator at a local hospital in NJ. Actually, my official title is "Education Coordinator" and my prime responsibility is with the organizational education - which includes doing RN, Nursing Assitant and Clerk orientations, as well as staff development. I must say that it's been over 13 years since I did bedside nursing so I get apprehensive when it comes to teaching nurses bedside skills. I can comfortably teach theory and health, but I have a problem when nurses ask for classes related to anything clinical. I obtained an MSN Online this year and I am so glad that I did! It was a lot of work but find it valuable even though it took me two years to complete. I hope to be able to collaborate with all of you, as well as get and give support to fellow nurse educators.

Hi Lprnc:

Welcome. I coordinate nursing and other clinical staff education from a corporate regional perspective and can relate to not having been at the bedside in quite a while. Although I did get to do some bedside audits and chart reviews onsight this past year and found that nursing hadn't really changed that much. At least not in med-surg. The acuity may be a bit higher, and some meds, equipment and procedures may have change but the skills and talents that make a good nurse seems unscathed. So hang in there, your years of experience and the critical thinking skills you have are very valuable.

Hi. ICPRNC. I also am new to the forum. Like you, i am an educator for a small hospital and have a 160 bed nursing home i am also responsible for education for. I was previously ADON in the nursing home. I have a book called Clinical Nursing Skills & Techniques published by Perry & Potter that is real good for bedside skill. Lippincott also has a good book they publish on Nursing Practice Skills. I have not ordered it yet, but think the hospital DON and i wil get it because we are revising procedure manuals. Hope we can help each other with needs. B.

I am in a MSN program to become a Nurse Educator. I work in peds, MCH, and I am a Lactation Consultant.

That's it! I gotta go to sleep!

Specializes in Gerontological, cardiac, med-surg, peds.

hello, bevll, and welcome to the forum :balloons: we look forward to hearing more from you :) in terms of p & p manuals, some hospitals in which we have clinicals simply use a referenced perry & potter or lippincott for procedures.

welcome to the forum, frpeho. we are so happy you are here and look forward to sharing ideas with you :) i am presently conducting clinicals on a busy postpartum floor, and the nurse lactation consultants there are wonderful resources. in fact, one will be hosting a lactation seminar for our senior adn students in a few weeks.

Hello,

I am a full time Nurse Tutor at an ADN program. I am looking anyone who is doing this. My original position is grant funded for online learners but may become permanent as my customer base is more traditional students.

I work with students with skills, clinical probs and academic probs. I work with students at all levels. Most of what I do is along the lines of coaching for better study skills, test taking strategies etc. At times I provide content review sessions in preparation for exams. I work very closely with primary instructors as a support mechanism. At times I assist in developing simulated lab experiences. If anyone is out there.... let me know and let's network!

Thanks,

the tutor
