Hello folks,
Got some questions!??? For those of you who are CNE how did you study for certification? Has it been worth it to becoming certified? I work parttime and they have recently changed the requirements to become certified so until I can leave my ICU position and work fulltime I figured that becoming certified would increase my chances of being hired. I currently work as a clinical instructor for a BSN program parttime and in the ICU fulltime. I want to know where to spend my time studying so I don't waste a lot of time. Any and all comments would be appreciated! Thanks...

Hi Organic,
I took the CNE Exam last year and quite frankly, I didn't find it very difficult (however I had just completed my MSN in Nursing Education).
I studied using the Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) Review Manual by Wittmann-Price, Godshall, andWilson (I read the 1st edition and it is now in its 2nd edition). Each chapter of the CNE ReviewManual has review questions. I also did the Self-Assessment Examination (SAE) available from the National League for Nursing.
After doing these two things, I found I was weak in the Teaching/Learning Theories area and in Test/Item Analysis area. I went back and reviewed these two things. That was enough for me.
I hope you go for it. Good luck!

What did they change about the certification? Just out of curiosity.

I took the pilot last summer & passed by the skin of my teeth It was very difficult. I made flashcards & used that method for studying & studied them for 2 weeks prior. I purchased the CNE review & used Halstead & Billings Teaching in Nursing it took me approx. 2 weeks to read & create the flashcards. 3 days prior, I purchased the practice test from NLN to determine where I needed to focus for the remaining study days. I am not sure what the changes are, but use the NLN test blueprint as a guideline & be sure to purchase the study guide's latest edition as I would expect it to be geared to the new blueprint.
Good luck!
Thanks so much for the feedback. Yeah it's been since 07 when I got my MSN but I looked at the resources and saw a number of familiar ones. Oh and thanks for the links as well! And Tait the change I referred to was where they now allow those who teach part-time to be certified.
Good to know!

This was my experience as well, right down to the study guide. I did not find the exam at all difficult. A coworker also has her CNE and she attended a prep course.
