I am a nurse educator who would like to continue my education and finish my MSN. However, I have 2 small children and I am a single mother. So money is a major issue. Does the NEA provide direct grants to people like me who want to continue their education? If so how does someone apply for this assistance? Also, can this Act help with repayment of federally insured student loans? Just wondering......

Grants available under this act are located here:
http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/aid.htm
They are closed for 2004 applications. Info posted on website ~ each Febuary so keep an eye out for next year.
Check out Discover Nursing's searchable scholarship database:

I tried the Nurse Education Act and you have to practice in one of the areas listed on the website in order to qualify. In Illinois - all the places are located in/near Chicago or in/near St. Louis. All are clinics and/or prisons. I'm in school for my MSN also and just bit the bullet and took out loans. Perhaps in Florida - there is more of a need?

I could never find any concrete information aka "actual cash for tuition" so I bit the bullet also and will owe a fortune in student loans when I'm done with MSN. The info on those websites all sounds great, but will have to wait until I graduate I guess to see what is available then to help with repaying student loans.
