Hi Everyone, I'm planning to apply for the HRSA NurseCorp Scholarship this year. I figured I would go ahead and start the next thread for this award year. I'm currently finishing up some of my prereqs and will be starting my BSN program in June. I know the application date hasn't been released yet but from what I have seen on other threads, it should be opened sometime in March/April with a deadline in May. I've also read that the prompt questions have been the same from one award year to the next so I have begun working on them as well as trying to figure out who I would like to use as recommendations. I would love to hear from all who plan to apply this year.
I'm giving it until Tuesday and then I have to withdraw. Orientation is Wednesday and with that comes hundreds of dollars worth of fees and such that I cannot afford to waste if I am not going to actually attend school. I cannot quit my job if I am not sure that I am receiving the scholarship, and If I am not going to receive the scholarship, I cannot attend school. So, I am a bit bummed, but super congrats to all the finalists!! I will try again next year.
I will try to answer as many questions as I can. I understand the questions some may be asking as to why someone got a finalist email. I cannot answer that question, but I can tell you my situation:
Looking for funding of last two years for BSN (no student debt for the first two years of prerequisites)
GPA- 4.0
EFC- Low but not 0
Program- Barnes Jewish College (Washington University) St. Louis, MO
Cost- $55,000
Age- 38 years old Caucasian female-returning student military spouse
No previous healthcare history. I did grow up in a farming community. St. Louis has many extremely high underserved healthcare areas. I tutor in language arts and I personally think my essays and area where I live where the two best things in my application (but I have no way of knowing).
I hope this helps.
I understand this sounds a little crazy.. but how exactly do you find the HPSA score? When I am on the website, sometimes certain places come up and other times they do not. I am trying to find specific places. Example Barnes Jewish Hospital and Children's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. Also, if it is a hospital, does it have designated places in the hospital you need to work? Thanks in advance. I didn't think I would get this scholarship, so I didn't do tons of research.
