Nurse Corps Scholarship 2017-2018

Published

Hi everyone,

I am interested in applying to the nurse corps scholarship 2017 2018 in order to pay for my accelerated program of sixteen months. I have a bachelors in sociology. I have done quiet a few researches. The application cycle will be open this month but I don't know which exact date. I have read discussion threads of previous years and have found really helpful information. I want to create a platform where interested applicants can ask questions, share information, discuss and help each other.

Thanks

Yes I would do my best to not think about it until mid July in order to not go mad!!! Everyone should get the Credit Karma App and keep eyes peeled for hard inquires from CREDCO in July. If that happens it is a very good sign! Good Luck Everyone!!!

AGHHHHHHHHH ! Today is the deadline for submission of the application. Now the grueling part of the wait to see if we are awarded the scholarship. UGHHHHHHH !

Credit checks are not a direct indicator of receiving an award as evidence in previous application cycles. The only information provided in the NCSP guide is: "A credit check will also be performed on each applicant's behalf." However, many people who are not chosen receive the credit check as well.

Valid point.

Hello FutureNurseEmily,

You seem most knowledgeable of the Nurse Corps Scholarship Application process. Regarding the credit check, what are they looking for ? Like a good credit score or how much debt you owe ?

The 2017 Application and Program Guidance provides a lot of useful information and may answer most of your questions. As explained, the credit checks are conducted as part of the eligibility process. They will be looking to ensure that you have provided accurate information during the eligibility portion of your application and/or if anything has changed which should be reported at the time as the change.

The 2017 NURSE Corps Scholarship Program application cycle has closed. All applications should now be under review.

I'm a recipient from last years cycle. Necejoi89. Everyone that received a credit check from last years thread received the scholarship, that I know of. We have a Facebook group now and 74 of us received it from last years thread. Some others may have declined it however, a CREDCO credit check is a positive sign. The credit check is to ensure you have no federal defaulted debt. Such has FHA mortgages, child support obligations and student loans, other debt and your score of not considered. As NWOHRN stated the guidance PDF is a good source of information, however I don't believe that everyone who applies gets a credit check, many on the thread did not. I would recommend checking out the thread from last year and the year before. Once credit checks are done notifications are done in waves. Once the first wave submits their acceptance documents, declines or fails to submit within the 72 hour time period, they do another wave with the next group. And so on and so on until enough applicants have accepted to reach their quota. The majority of us that got offers received credit check son 7/15 and I was in the first wave of offers on 7/26 and people followed consistently through August in different waves. There were some that got offers on the every last day 9/29. All notifications are done on or before 9/30. The BHW and the guidance pdf give very not committal information. It is hard to get clarifications on most questions. But once you are in the program you have direct access via the portal to a consultant that works with you through out your time in school, job search and service commitment. I would get Credit Karma, and if you get a credit check I would say its safe to get excited, but don't get discouraged if you see other get it, you may just end up in a different wave. Good Luck!

....and patiently, anxiously waiting....
