Nurse Corps Scholarship 2017-2018

Published

Hi everyone,

I am interested in applying to the nurse corps scholarship 2017 2018 in order to pay for my accelerated program of sixteen months. I have a bachelors in sociology. I have done quiet a few researches. The application cycle will be open this month but I don't know which exact date. I have read discussion threads of previous years and have found really helpful information. I want to create a platform where interested applicants can ask questions, share information, discuss and help each other.

Thanks

One more quick question...will they notify only by email? By phone? I am currently overseas and am anxious to make sure that I don't somehow miss a notification. Any input from past years/prior experience?

I got mine on 6/8/17. I am dying! But no one else has either... so I am not completely freaking out.

I have checked Mint, Credit Karma, and Equifax.com... no credit check for me. Feeling a bit deflated, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be considered if there are spots after finalist emails go out for NHSC and NCSP.

To answer the question above, I have heard that the first round of finalists are notified via email, so once those emails start going out, check your email inbox and and spam and junk boxes if you had a credit check!

I was thinking the same thing, but it doesn't make much sense for them to do credit checks for applicants who aren't competitive, right? Seems that it would be a waste of money and time for them. While it looks like many of us have reported checks, remember that they give out 200-ish awards...so the thought that all 10-15 people who have reported checks thus far are all in the running is a little more believable. :) Good luck to everyone!

Email only, be sure you add HRSA to you contacts so it doesn't go to junk!

I have not received a credit check, so I guess that means I am out of the running. Good luck to the rest of you! I shall try again next year :)

@Cinderella8825 Did you apply to both NHSC and nurse corps? I got a check in June too. I'm wondering if the programs operate completely separately and if they would do another check, or if both operate from the same one.

The nerve wrecking part for me is not knowing what wave I'll be in. According to last years thread, a lot of people got their credit checks on the same day of 7/15 but when they received actual emails differed.

Congrats to those who got a credit check yesterday! That's a good sign. There were some who got an offer without a check least year, but everyone who got a check got an offer that I know of. Hold the line I got my offer 13 days after my credit check and it was a brutal wait, but worth it! Remember to check that your area has service site, this is a vital thing to know before you sign that contract! I've posted links to the data ware house to check sites by address in previous posts. Keep thinking positive!!!

Is receiving a credit check a guarantee for the scholarship? Also, do you know why there's a difference between those that saw Credco vs. HRSA on their credit checks?

@melp4 Both. I am sure that it is not NurseCorp, I don't have an EFC they would want. Lol! Plus, all of the MD students got it the same day... Still applied, because why not?

The credit check is not a guarantee of the scholarship. Even getting a finalist email isn't technically a guarantee, according to the fine print (though I have not actually heard of any one getting that email and NOT getting the award). But most people from the forums who report getting a credit check seem to show up later saying they got a finalist email (and occasionally, someone will get a finalist email having not got a credit check).

No there is no guarantee, but it means you meet criteria and have a score that puts you in the running. They do notifications in waves based on how high your application scored, there is no way to know what you score was. Last year we got our checks 7/15 and the first wave I know of was on 7/26 which is the one I was in. Then after our 72 hours was up there was another an so on and so forth all the way up to the first or second week of September, but it's not over until the last day of September.

As fr the CREDCO vs HRSA I think that is just based on the reporting agent. But I don't work for the BHW. The more important thing historically is the CREDCO credit checks were all the same day. So for those who had a check on the same day, I would not get into semantics of how it was reported, personally. I also wouldn't bombard the call center with a bunch of fine detail questions because you all will get conflicting answers that will just make you more stressed. The only thing you can do is ride it out, there is no way to predict actual days that it will all fall into place.
