Nurse Corps Scholarship 2017-2018
I heard that DNP students are less likely to get Nurse Corps than NHSC because Nurse Corps prioritizes MSN NPs over DNPs. Otherwise, Nurse Corps is generally less competitive than NHSC, assuming you're a nurse, because you're not competing with all those dental and medical students... I'd take either, honestly. I didn't get a credit check.

I did. I think there are a few others who also applied for both.

They should make it more clear and they should offer funding for the first part of the program for those of us pursuing BSN to DNP! It's silly to leave us out of the running for a paperwork issue. I'd be happy to take what I can get - I'm living on food stamps, for heaven's sakes! *deep breaths*. I need some ice cream.

@starbucksandpink, I think most of us have similar stats, but I understand your pain. I have a 0 EFC, I'm from a disadvantaged background, and I've been volunteering for years with refugees, victims of DV, and at a drug recovery center. I have a cumulative 3.8 and I was even SNA President. What gives? I'm doing an NP program, but I heard that I may be penalized in the scoring because it's BSN-DNP? Who knows the logic. I wish I got a credit check, but I'm trying to trust the universe right now... *hugs to you and others who are disappointed* But it's not over 'til it's over. Let's try to trust that things will work out as they should. *sigh* PS I thought your username was a BSG reference at first and I admit I'm disappointed that it probably isn't.

The credit check is not a guarantee of the scholarship. Even getting a finalist email isn't technically a guarantee, according to the fine print (though I have not actually heard of any one getting that email and NOT getting the award). But most people from the forums who report getting a credit check seem to show up later saying they got a finalist email (and occasionally, someone will get a finalist email having not got a credit check).

I have checked Mint, Credit Karma, and Equifax.com... no credit check for me. Feeling a bit deflated, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be considered if there are spots after finalist emails go out for NHSC and NCSP. To answer the question above, I have heard that the first round of finalists are notified via email, so once those emails start going out, check your email inbox and and spam and junk boxes if you had a credit check!

@Cinderella8825, yes I was asking about you. It sounds like you may be in the running for NHSC, so fingers crossed for you! My guess is that they have not done the credit check for NCSP yet. I am almost buzzing with anticipation. Its hard to think straight these days!

Did you apply to both NHSC and NCSP? From what I read at the Student Doctor Network, the credit check is a good sign! There have been some who didn't see a credit inquiry show up until much later and some never reported seeing it, but it seems that those who did get the check had a high rate of being offered an award. :) I hope the NCSP hasn't finished with theirs yet, but I might not be in the running anyway... I think a DNP NP might be Tier 2 and less likely to be selected...?

Hello, All. I'm an RN starting a BSN to DNP program in September and I applied to both NHSC and NCSP. I've been lurking here and over at the Student Doctor Network as they await finalist emails, too. A bunch of them had credit checks on June 8th (hard pulls from CREDCO), and if last year is any indication, the first round of NHSC finalist emails may go out on or around Friday (last year it was June 27th). I have not had a credit check, but I'm still hoping to be in another round of checks. It sounds like there hasn't been as much activity for NCSP applicants, anyway. Perhaps there will be a big round of them for us soon. I have not heard of a single person for either program getting a finalist email yet, so the previous commenter seems right on with the assessment that the BHW representative wasn't giving accurate information! Anyway, here's to all of you who are hanging in there, hoping and praying! Good luck to all of you!
