Starting this thread for those who applied for Nurse Corps loan repayment in 2021
Well, well, well, look at what we have here. Maybe there will be hope for us nurses after all to be treated fairly. I encourage you to contact your legislators and urge their support for this bill.

Thanks gaspasser, but.... it looks like it would just make the nurse corps scholarship payments non-taxable... but not the nursecorps loan repayment.
?
I would encourage all of us who are receiving or wanting to receiving the nursecorps loan repayment to contact the following senators:
Mr. Merkley, Mr. Wicker, Mrs. Murray, Mr. Boozman, Ms. Stabenow, Mrs. Gillibrand, and Ms. Klobuchar
This does appear to be bipartisan so that should be helpful!

"Introduced in Senate (01/13/2022)
Nurse Corps Tax Parity Act of 2022
This bill excludes from gross income, for income tax purposes, amounts received by members of the Nurse Corps as scholarships or loan forgiveness."
Hmm, I assumed we fell under loan forgiveness.
Yes, everyone, please contact your state senators and encourage support for this bill.
You can click this link to find your senator. They seem to all have a contact form on their website that allows you to quickly message them.
Here is a sample message you could send: Nurse Corps Tax Parity Act of 2022
I am a nurse and am encouraging you to support bipartisan Senate Bill S.3505 - Nurse Corps Tax Parity Act of 2022. This will enable nurses to receive non-taxable loan forgiveness from the nurse corps program. Currently payments through the nurse corps student loan forgiveness program are considered taxable income. The nurse corps loan forgiveness program is only awarded to those working at non-profit, high need facilities. Thank you!
OK the bill S.3505 - the “Nurse Corps Tax Parity Act of 2022” has been sent to the Senate Finance Committee. Thank you gaspasser for bringing this to my attention. I spent way too much time trying to ensure it will cover us but by specifiying "section 846", that seems to cover both the Nurse Corps scholarship AND loan repayment programs.
If Chuck Grassley, from Iowa, supports this bill, it will have a good chance of being moved forward into legislation that will hopefully pass the senate/house and be signed by Biden. Please reach out to Chuck Grassley at this website: https://www.grassley.senate.gov/contact/questions-and-comments and send him a quick message. I've created a sample message for you to make it quick and simple.
Subject: S.3505 - the “Nurse Corps Tax Parity Act of 2022”
Sample message (feel free to copy/paste):
I am asking you to please move forward bill S.3505 - the “Nurse Corps Tax Parity Act of 2022”. This bill will benefit the economy and healthcare in rural areas. The Nurse Corps program requires nurses work where there is a shortage of healthcare workers. Nurses who are paying lower taxes (as this bill would do) will be spending more in their local rural economy, rather than sending their money on to the federal government. This bill will also help attract nurses to work in rural high need areas, improving healthcare for your rural constituents. Thank you.
Congrats to both of you for getting accepted! I’m a fellow CRNA and got denied last year even with a DTI of 141%. I’m wondering if I should claim the OB certification this year because it’s technically part of our practice and I do a fair amount where I’m at… I don’t want to get disqualified for not having the supporting documentation they’re looking for though. Any insight? Thank you!

There is no OB at my facility so I don't know how that would benefit you or the documents you would need. Historically, based on posts here, a minimum DTI of around ~160% is necessary to be in the running. The extra Cares Act funding is what allowed me to receive the award. Good luck.

Are you certified in an area of womens health? I would think they would ask for verification of this by checking your CV or state license’s area of practice. For APRNs this includes being a certified nurse midwife or women’s health NP. For RNs, it would be RNC-OB, RNC-MNN, etc.
I actually work in women’s health/OB as an FNP and still did not claim the women’s health certification to give myself a boost since I am not a WHNP or CNM and didn’t want to get in trouble/submit fraudulent info. From the application: “APRNs with certifications in women’s health (WHNPs and CNMs) and certified OB/GYN RNs working in OB/GYN settings in eligible CSF” are the ones who have extra money set aside.
Hope this clears it up, but you can also check with the customer service folks to be sure.

Hi, there is OB at my facility, but I did not claim OB certification because I do not have it. There could have been multiple reasons. What tier are you in? It's a combination of DTI and HSPA score for your facility. This could be part of the issue. Another reason could be due to paperwork. I recommend going through the paperwork and reading the requirements front to back and making a checklist of what is required, and after reading through it again to make sure you didn't miss anything. If it weren't for my checklist, I would have missed uploading my marriage license, this is required if you changed your name. I hope this helps. Best of luck to you.
Anyone receive their tax documents yet? They were supposed to be available by January 31st but I haven't gotten/can't find it anywhere in the portal. I sent a message and they said I elected to receive it online and not through the mail. Just curious if anyone has their tax documents already. Thanks.

Hello ,
does anyone knows, if you have a history of default from many years ago , are you disqualified automatically?
