2021 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Starting this thread for those who applied for Nurse Corps loan repayment in 2021

This is my first post on this thread. I see a signature from someone in HRSA on Sept 21 but I haven't received anything deposited yet

It can take up to 90 days after you receive signature. They’re faster this year though. You still need to get your welcome packet.

So what exactly happens now? This is my first time applying and getting it. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. What can I expect? 

I'm just eager to pay Sallie Mae back ASAP and have a bit of my paycheck and my life back

Did you get Nurse Corps or NHSC? 

I decided to go with NHSC. It's a lump sum of $50,000 that will be deposited into your bank account approximately 90 days from your contract start date. It took 79 days for me to see the funds. You use that money to pay your loans and can ask for continuation after your 2 years is complete for another year ($20,000 for year 3, another $20,000 for year 4, then $10,000/year until your loans are paid in full). As long as you used those funds to pay your loans off I am under the impression that you are pretty much guaranteed the continuations if you want them. Oh also, NHSC is not taxed so you don't have to worry about paying taxes on this.

I applied to the nurse corps loan repayment one. I don't think I even knew about the nhsc one. That sounds pretty good too. Is that just for advanced practice nurses?

I also just received this email. I opted for Nurse Corps and have already received a payment from them. I turned down NHSC and still got this letter today. Are you receiving Nurse Corps or NHSC?

Oh wow, that's interesting. I applied for nurse corps but I haven't received any payment yet. I've become a participant now so hopefully a payment comes.

You were rejected from NHSC, the lump sum ($50k) program. Nurse Corps is the one where you are given a monthly amount for 2 years.

You will get a rejection letter from NHSC if you accepted NURSE CORPS. This letter is from NHSC. They are 2 different applications.

I got a rejection letter from Nurse Corps since I accepted NHSC. Hope this helps.

I wasn’t even paying attention that it was a rejection letter from the other program! But I was removed from the running for that when I accepted Nurse Corp so it still surprises me to get this! Thank you!
