2017 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Nurses New Nurse

Hi Fellow Nurses!

Is anyone else anxiously awaiting the 2017 cycle opening?

I have applied several times and praying that 2017 is my year. I'm tier 1 - not faculty and not an NP.

Is anyone else out there?

Specializes in FNP: Urgent Care & Primary Care; RN: Med-Surg.
Thanks. Its nice to hear that other people are in the same boat. Where are you in the tier system?

Yeah, it is pretty heartbreaking. I'm tier 1 with score 17 and >180% DTI (can't remember the exact number)

I received my welcome packet yesterday! I'm a NP, HRSA score-16, I can't recall my D/I but I was in Tier 1. I received my finalist email on Aug 30th, my contract was countersigned 9/18. The payment authorization worksheet shows I will be receiving 24 monthly payments. After taxes (FICA and federal income tax) are withheld the repayment decreases from 60% to around 41% of my debt however this is still a HUGE blessing! Good luck to everyone and congrats to those already notified!

So I've looked over the Welcome packet & just looked through to make sure that all of my info is correct. Other than that, I have not come across anything else that we are supposed to do. Can anyone else verify that now we just wait for deposit??

Same boat as well. Tier 1 and have applied for years. Radio silence.

emmiecb, I truly know how you are feeling. I really have NO idea how they pick and choose the awardees. I've seen people post higher facility scores and higher D/I ratios than mine, and have not been awarded. It makes ZERO sense. I honestly believe that if the HRSA program could at least state where you are after submitting an application, anxiety would not be as high for all of us. I hope that you do hear something, but if not, don't give up! It only took me 4 years of trying!!!

You just wait for a deposit. In the packet, I think it says 30-45 days but it comes sooner. I got mine 2 weeks after the Welcome Packet.

What I don't quite understand is why haven't I just flat out been denied if d/I ratio needs to be so high? I am way less than 100%, not sure what my facility rating is, but would guess tier 1. Anyway, why don't they just deny me, instead still under review? Just wonder?

lynn5707, I never understood that either, but they literally wait until the deadline of Sept 30th to announce everything. I agree that if they know, without a shadow of a doubt, that someone will NOT be awarded, they should go ahead and just shoot us down right then and there. Instead, the agony is extended out for months, for no good reason. It's very frustrating!

Anyone still finding out that they have been awarded? I know they say until Sept. 30th... Just curious if I still have a shot at it... I'm an NP, HPSA score is 17 at DTI is 160%+.

I applied and my application still says, "under review"

Yeah still waiting :/

They try to give everyone a chance. It seems some people apply for the NCLRP and the NHSC at the same time and then when they confirm interest for one, it cancels their other application. And it all depends on the debt of the other people applying, which changes year to year. They work their way down the line. Some people are no longer interested (maybe they quit their job or changed locations and no longer qualify), don't confirm interest in time, or have applied for another award. There is always a chance you will get it, it just depends on how fast they run out of money unfortunately. Also, if you are applying as an RN, the two types of hospitals are divided into two groups. So depending on the debt of the people applying in that specific group affects your chance.

I've noticed from other posts on here that people in the past have found out that not all their loans were approved by nurse corps, and so their D/I ratio was less than and therefore they fell lower in the ranking and didn't get awarded.

Wishing you luck still!
