Nurse Corps Loan Repayment 2016 Cycle

Published

Hello All,

I am applying for the nurse corps loan repayment program 2016 cycle, I just spoke to a representative who told me the application cycle opens up tomorrow. For those of you who have applied any tips advice etc.? I am very excited about this opportunity because I have an outrageous amount of loans.

This was supposed to be posted in response to JLSETA :

I fall into that "other" category as well! I am a CNS in Tier 1 (D/I of 268%, HPSA 17). I got the credit check when everyone else did in april, and received my "finalist" notice on 8/6.

I am confused....why do you have to pay anything back? Since they only pay 60% you would still have a balance after all the disbursements.

I was awarded the NHSC LRP which pays back up to $50,000. I only owe 45K.

I just recieved my welcome packet and my screen now directs me to the partipant portal with all my documents when I log in.

Congratulations! Nice to hear they are moving along!

I won't be able to defer them anyway. :sniff: Navient said I would have to show hardship or be in school to defer and I don't qualify for either. I called customer service at the LRP and they said I just have to return the unused amount after paying the loans off (which will only be about $1000).

Hello! I also applied to the NHSC. Can you tell me your facility score and did you submit a disadvantaged score background. I'm still under review and so anxious they won't pick me and my facility score is 17 but I didn't submit a disadvantaged background form and HRSA said they start at the top and work their way down starting with score and disadvantaged background providers.

My facility score is 17 and I did not submit a disadvantaged background. I think they are still sending out the awards and it seems it is region based. My colleague and I both received our acceptance to the program at the exact same time and she applied much earlier than I did.

Thank you! I'm in NYS, if you don't mind me asking what state are you in and what day did you get notified

Congrats! It seems they waited to award the other category last. Hopefully they will set out another round of awards.

For the Nurse Corps Program, those who have received their welcome packet, did they give you an idea when your first deposit would come through?

patiently waiting for countersign:(

Rural West Texas and I was notified 8/10.

I'm still waiting on a countersignature...

I'm thinking ahead here in terms of preparation. But from what I'm reading is that we will be federally taxed for the repayment... so do I need to act as if this is part of my total salary for the year (in determining tax brackets, etc)?

(I'm not great with accounting / finance at all!)

Thanks in advance!
