Nurse Corps Loan Repayment 2016 Cycle

Published

Hello All,

I am applying for the nurse corps loan repayment program 2016 cycle, I just spoke to a representative who told me the application cycle opens up tomorrow. For those of you who have applied any tips advice etc.? I am very excited about this opportunity because I have an outrageous amount of loans.

I'm still waiting on a countersignature...

I'm thinking ahead here in terms of preparation. But from what I'm reading is that we will be federally taxed for the repayment... so do I need to act as if this is part of my total salary for the year (in determining tax brackets, etc)?

(I'm not great with accounting / finance at all!)

Thanks in advance!

In my welcome packet it states they will take out fed and ss tax which came to about 35% but yes it is included in income and they will send you a w2. They pay it monthly so this tax year it may not boost you too much but 2017 it definitely will me.

35% of what they give us?! my gosh.

Yep. My total payout for 2 years is is 92,000 and they are taking 30,000 in taxes which is about 32%.

So in the end instead of 92,000 being paid off it will be a little over 62,000.

Still better than no help though!!

You can always apply for the 3rd yr. That's What My plans are. I love my job and don't plan on going anywhere !

Me also! I am faculty and I love my University. I will be there indefinitely as long as they will have me!

I knew it would be high, most things like this are taxed heavily but the good news is there is always the potential to get some back in taxes! it is just considered regular income so will be taxed at the end of the year like normal.

Yes!!! I'm faculty as well and I'm I NP school and the University is paying for it so I'm committed for as long as they are!!. Lol

I was under review in April, but still under review. I'm afraid that I probably won't be getting anything this year. What really worries me, but haven't been able to get through is that my work verification reads PN program and doesn't show our ADN program. I hope that didn't take me out of contention......haven't been able to get ahold of them by phone.

Specializes in Utilization Review.

RN 140% D/I Ratio, HPSA 17, still under review don't see a ton of RN's yet, but it is getting pretty late for notifications, I'm slowly losing hope, i just have that fact sheet in my mind where it says they pretty much were able to fun all Tier 1's, but i don't think that seems correct. It says they gave out over 1700 awards last year, out of 6000 applications.

They def didn't find all tier 1 applicants. I did not receive the award last year and I was tier 1. I'm still waiting as well. Doesn't look promising

Have thereceived been anymore countersigning?
