I read in my local paper today that a former co-worker of mine and an aquaintance of DH's was arrested for DUI last week
I wonder what, if any kind of consequences he faces from the State Board of Nursing.
Will he lose his job with his current employer?
It's sad really because I know he's split from his wife. DH was just saying how this person has a problem with alcohol and now this...

Nurse-lou, I think they must have a way of knowing, because from what it looks like, people lose their licenses for DUI and forgetting to chart more than any other reasons - at least that's what I've gleaned from online stuff. Poor guy - DUI is such a bad thing for everyone. If you feel the need to get blasted, do it at home or with a designated driver! The irony is that people are more liable to get a DUI when their life is a mess, and end up making it even worse. I feel for the guy, though.

If the state has a drug assistance program then he may be able to keep his license if he goes into the program. The nurses I have seen go through TPAPN here in TX have a lot of hoops to jump through but it beats losing the license altogether.

Alot of states have a peer review for impaired nurses and when the BON gets involved in this state (Oklahoma) you are ordered to go to Peer assistance.
And in my opinion, if you are caught on a DUI, you need help because responsible adults don't drive drunk or impaired.
Peer can only help and not hurt.
