Anyone else starting this class on 4/8? I looked all through the boards, and only found one thread about this class and it was not helpful. I'm guessing we would need to shadow someone in management for this course.
Just another course I can't wait to be done with.
Anyone working on the Organizational Analysis assignment? I have no clue what the last part of the assignment is talking about. "Discuss two specific patient outcomesand explain how they are measured and monitored. Include one system–wideoutcome and one nurse–sensitive clinical indicator."
I read chapter 6 on improving quality but I don't see anything specifc about measures or clinical indicators. Are we suppose to talk to someone at our work about how they do this?
bionicalwoman,
hi, i'm not in your class, but i read you post. Management at my hospital talks about some of these things all the time. Nurse-sensitive indicators are things like falls, pressure ulcers, VAP, CAUTI's, pain, stuff like that. They are things in the hospital that are directly related to nursing; in other words, things that nurses can reduce or change or influence. They are measured by simple counting. For example, at my hospital, falls have to be reported to risk management, so they determine the number of falls month to month on each unit in the hospital. Someone puts them on a graph and they are posted on a board in our break room. Once in a while, our director comes by to beat us when the numbers stay the same or (God forbid) go up. Maybe you could ask your director or charge nurse where you work.
hope this helps.

I put patient satisfaction for system-wide, which is monitored or measured with surveys etc…
For the nurse-specific, I put patient safety and the things we use to measure that is variance reports or incidence reports. I really can't tell you if that is right, but I made it sound good. That assignment was tedious.
The AC just responded to my question. Pick one problem and develop a plan for that one specific occurrence. I guess you could do all infections but it would probably be easier to focus on either UTI’s or post-op infections, etc...[/quote']Are you referring to the change theory project? Or the last question of this weeks assignment?

Has anyone started/looked at the Change Theory Project yet? I emailed a question to the AC with no such luck getting a reply. Just wondering if we are to address one problem (like for option 2) and do a plan for that. That is how I read the instructions and wanted a second opinion. Gosh, I hate powerpoints!!!
