Hi friends! I have been a CNA for the last four years (two of those years were hospital experience) and I am ready to start my journey toward my RN. I have all but the Nursing pre-reqs done (except A&P and Bio and two others).
I want to hear what YOUR nursing program is like... how many hours a week do you spend in class and clinicals, not counting hours of study before and after class?
I ask because I have a few options as far as RN school goes, our local program at the community college offers a decent pass rate but they require something close to 40 hours combined between class and clinicals. However I feel like they make it too hard to get and stay in their program...it's a community college for Pete's sake! (ex. I had a friend with a 4.0 and she was not accepted into the RN program and had to do LPN instead. In case you were wondering, this is ONLY for an ADN.)
I am not afraid of hard work but I want to avoid wasting time. I have a fair amount of experience with a wide variety of patients and tasks and I want to make sure that my experience and time are used wisely. I also have a son who is 2 and I don't want to put him in daycare 40 hours a week!

Right now I have about 4 hours in class and 17 hours in clinicals, plus all kinds of extra stuff - meetings, time spent in skills lab (no required hours right now) etc.

In LVN school, we attended 5 days times 8 hour days.
I'm in the 3rd semester of an RN program now and we attend 1 day of class for 5.5 hrs max...sometimes only 4.5. The other 2 days are clinicals of 8 hrs each.
