NSU EntryBSN Spring 2011

Published

Hello perspective nursing classmates! Applying to any nursing program is nerve wrecking but I'm hoping this thread will allows us to help each other and support one another during this difficult process. Some of us have been through this more than once; hopefully it will be the last. I want to wish all of us the best of luck! :nurse:

My fiance' called me i got my package at home woooohoooo excitement overwhelmed me right now!

-Congrats Karina331!

-Giggles when you say you went to pay everything, do you mean the entire deposit fee or just the $500 that we have to pay within two weeks? There are so many things we have to get done but its worth it.

-By the way does anyone know if Nova offers any other scholarships other than Baptist?

my package states that our orientation is on 8/31, do you guys know if that's right for the winter term ?

futurenutrire= everything, the whole $1,000.00. i did everything in one check. i know its suppose to be three separate payments ($500, $250 and $250) but i paid it all at once. i have the money now and i don't want to spend it so i decided to just do it. lol. i went to the admissions office and they said it wasn't problem. after making my payments, i immediately (that same afternoon) received an email regarding immunizations and a background check. it read the following:

we are pleased to acknowledge that you are joining nova southeastern university. as you may be aware, nsu is the 7th largest private not-for-profit university in the united states and is continually expanding its horizons. although we may be large, we consider ourselves a big family, and we are happy that you have chosen to become a part of it.

background check information

accepted applicants and students in nsu's health professions division are required to submit to a background check prior to beginning their program of study.

please visit our authorized agency, www.certifiedbackground.com, for performing these checks.

please complete your background check before august 30th for fall admission and december 1st for winter admission.

immunization information

once you have submitted your background information, you will be prompted to the magnus health portal to submit physical examination and immunization requirements. please complete these requirements before november 30th for fall admission and april 1st for winter admission.

i thought all this information will be in our package... is it not?

regarding scholarships- i found this website but i haven't been able to search it myself so i don't know if it our needs as nursing students but check it out: nsu scholarship opportunities | student financial assistance

however, you need to go to the "stop shop"- it's in the same place where the admissions office is. they can help with financial aid. they let know what you qualify for regarding aid. you need to fill out your fafsa or add nova to your current fafsa and fill out some forms and submit to them. then, they can tell you what scholarships are available and other aids. also, the financial aid office is right next to them. if you need more help or have more questions you can just walk over. but you need to get some paperwork done first so they can tell you what's available. also, look into the florida nurses association and national student nurses association. they give away scholarships to nursing students!! :yeah:

karina= that orientation date sounds wrong- august 31? maybe you should call on monday to confirm because we are suppose to start classes in january and i was always under the impression that orientation is the 1st day of class. we need to confirm that day...

Thank you so much giggles for all of that information. On Monday ill go handle the payments and go to the financial aide office just like you suggested.

Guys I emailed A****y and she advised me that the date was wrong... Our orientation will take place on January 10, 2011 = ) :yeah:. As well, for those who have already been accepted, keep in mind that for winter 2011 the Kendal campus will be open and if that is the campus of your choice I suggest to emaill A****y ASAP so that she may email the director for that campus to see if you may be admitted there :nurse:.

well good luck guys :)

Giggles, did you get your package ?

-Karinat331

I just picked up my package. It's so cute! I havent viewed all the information yet. I'll post info as I read through it.

so happy about kendall being open I pushed really hard for it. Since the Baptist scholars isn't available for our term the clinicals were up in the air because currently the students do their clinicals at Baptist due to their contact. However, for winter term 2011 the kendall campus is available and the clinicals will be at Baptist and other local hospitals. Therefore, as karina mentioned if your interested in the kendall campus (those accepted) should contact the nursing adviser regarding campus change. I recommend viewing the kendall campus before making a decision since it is a very small campus with no library. I saw it and liked it. The skills lab is brand new. If you have questions email me.

Karina= are you going to do a campus change?

Giggles I am glad that you got your package and yes it's super cute! do you know if the class room #'S are smaller ? and the diffrence between the campuses?

I'm not sure if the class numbers are smaller but I know that its a limited number of students that can attend the Kendall campus ( I believe 40 or maybe 60) but not more than 60 for sure. There are some differences that is why I highly recommend a campus tour.

The Kendall campus does have a student lounge (a few couches, and a seating area with vending machines), a new nursing skills lab, tutoring center for reading and math, study rooms (with hours: ex. the study rooms are open on weekdays till midnight and from 10am-6pm on the weekends), computer lab (acces to computers, internet, copy machines) and a student council. There is no library, I didn't see a bookstore, nor a former cafeteria. However, the Kendall campus is inside a shopping center and inside the shopping center is a Latin America, L.A fitness center, Movie theater, borders book store, On The Border Restaurant, Chillis, macaroni grill, and many other shopping stores (Gap, Ulta, best buy, etc. ) Again, I recommend viewing the campus and the area for yourself. You can contact the campus and ask for a tour. Let them you have been admitted to the winter term of 2011 and you want to tour.

Contact information is:

Also, there are info meeting dates on:

  • June 24, 2010, 6:30 p.m.
    (Undergraduate Day)

  • July 24, 2010, 9:30 a.m

This info can be found on the Nova website: Miami Student Educational Center | Nova Southeastern University

Which you can RSVP for. I would contact the campus to see if this is fitting for nursing students since this campus also has other programs. BTW, I was told that the nursing students are the only one's who are on campus during the week in the morning. The other programs use the campus in the late afternoon during the weekdays. And the graduate programs use the campus on the weekends.

Has anyone filled out and turned in their residency form to the Terry Building yet? If so, did you have to bring anything else with the form?

I mailed mine in with copies of my voters card, drivers license, past two year W2's and past two paystubs. it was as well notarized, that was the one for the HPD. now the one for financial aid I faxed over with my drivers license.

hi everyone, congratulation to those who have been accepted to winter 2011:yeah::yeah:. I hope to get my acceptance too in order to be part of these team. I have a question for those who have been accepted, what was your GPA ?. thank you so much I hope to see all of you on january.:nurse:
