Hello perspective nursing classmates! Applying to any nursing program is nerve wrecking but I'm hoping this thread will allows us to help each other and support one another during this difficult process. Some of us have been through this more than once; hopefully it will be the last. I want to wish all of us the best of luck!

Good luck. Stay the course, and if you don't get in remember to call and ask what you can do to strengthen your application. Believe it, it helps!!!

Hi giggles01,
Well. I started to appy for the winter term yesterday and I am so excited; however, if I get accepted I will ask them to let me attend the Fall term so that I get a chance at the Baptist scholarship. Good luck.

hello everyone, I just applied to winter 2011, so I'm gonna be part of this ship and I hope to see all of you in Nova as a classmates in january.that's anybody know what could be a good GPA to be in the pool of NOVA ?
by the way very good thread :).
kristou= so glad you started your application! hurray! i'm excited too but nervous and tired all at the same time. its been a very long road. i have been waiting to hear from nova since april of 2010!! therefore, i just really want an answer soon. like you, i want to find out if i can ask if i can start in fall of 2011 just so that i have the chance to apply for the baptist scholars but i don't know if they will let us. its going to be tricky. but i won't worry for now, i'll cross that bridge when i get there.
ianstudent= glad you joined the thread :). regarding your question on gpa, i have no idea. its hard to tell with nova. for the fall term of 2010 there was a variety of gpa's that were accepted from 3.0-3.8. it all depends on your commitment to your education such as: do you have an degrees (a.a, b.a, b.s), number of withdrawals/fails, what classes have you withdrawn/faile, what experience do you have, extracurricular activities. then, they look at your essay and possibly your letters of recommendations.
also, found this thread that karinat331 started for the winter of 2011 class. check it out! by the way, karinat331 already got accepted into the winter of 2011 class. it seems that nova may be reviewing applications for winter term earlier than expected. hope this helps. keep in touch!!

Giggles01,
Thanks for your message about the withdraw policy; however, I wanted to know about withdraw policy for the pre-requisite courses. Last week, I received a letter in the mail from Barry University telling me that I have been denied for their nursing program, I was shocked and I could not understand how they made a decision since I have classes that are pending. I called them and they told me that I was automatically denied since I have one W for anatomy 1. I was so schoked. The lady even told me not to bother applying againg since their policy is no W, failures, or repeats in science classes.
Eventhough Barry was not my first choice, I was still sad. Imagine, right now I have a 3.67 GPA, I am enrolled in summer classes that will end soon, therefore my GPA is expected to go up, I only have one W for anatomy and when I retook it, I passed with an A. Is Barry so perfect that they cannot even forgive a W. Things happen you know.
Anyway, I want to hopefully submit my application to Nova by next week the latest. I really hope that you get in this semester. Good luck to us all.
kristou= I know exactly how you feel about Barry. I wasn't accepted to Barry because I have two DR's (drops) but they are not even any of the pre-reqs or science courses; they were from two upper division psychology courses since I'm also doing my B.A in psychology at FIU and when I re-took both courses A's (in both). They told me the exact same thing, not to bother applying because Ill "never be a Barry nurse." I was completely dishearten. Like you, they are not my first choice but I was upset at how rude they were. My boyfriend graduated from Barry in May of 2009 and when he got accepted he only had a 3.2 GPA! My GPA is a 3.41 and I'll have my B.A by spring of 2011 from FIU! (By then my GPA should go way up) and its amazing how they won't even consider me. I guess times are different now. Don't worry its all going to work soon enough. Regardless, I don't think Nova is as ridiculous as Barry, honestly in regards to the withdraw policy. lol.
BTW, did you check out the thread?
I did check them out. There is so much information. Thanks giggles, have a nice weekend.

Hey everyone! My name is Jackie and I am new to allnurses.com. I have been following several threads about nursing programs.
I also applied for Nova winter program 2011! I applied like around mid june and I am soooooo nervous! I am afraid i wont get in either. My gpa is a 3.2 I am taking classes in the summer so my gpa will def. go up but I am terrified that I dont get accepted. However, my extra curriculars are very strong. I even sent in a CV resume with my letters of recommendations. It says my application is in review but I dont know I am soooo scared!
Kristou, and for those of you who are considering applying for Baptist scholars for fall term, I had spoken to the nursing advisor at Barry and she told me that if anyone gets accepted to Spring term that you YOURSELF can go to different hospitals and speak to the human resources dept and try to negotiate a scholarship as well. Like you negotiate with them .. pay this for me and ill work for you for this long and it might actually work out better for you instead of having to be committed for 3 years. So before you guys make any decision try to find out your options and if it can be done! :)
See ya guys! KIT!
Jackie :)

Hey I have been following you guys since the fall 2010 thread but I'm happy there's a spring one. I too went through the same waiting process for the fall like you guys but I'm happy to say that I got accpeted into the spring term by the grace of God. You guys really have to stay positive and keep in contact with them. I know that waiting sucks but it pays off when you see that acceptance email.

I finally got the E-mail to defer to the winter. But I dont know i feel like everyone who applied and didnt get in got that email. I havent really heard of anyone who actually got a rejection letter, but we'll see. The only sad part about all this is we wont be able to aply to the baptist scholars program in winter, and its expensive so idk how ill pay for it. well good luck hopefully we get a reply soon
