Aaah...school sucks. I didn't get the e-mail saying I'm in the Nursing Honor Society. I mean, I doesn't really bug me too much because just making it this far is happiness. Does it really make a difference anyway? Can I still get in it after my second semester? Is it worth the $90? Is anyone here in it?

Specializes in psych.

I was accepted in the fall, but won't get inducted until graduation. Personally, I feel it was an honor because it was a goal I set for myself. But there is alittle flaw, I know of 2 girls that worked in the office of student affairs that worked really close with the assoc. dean, somehow both got accepted, and I know for a fact they probley have less than 3.5 gpa. So it's also who ya know.

Invitation is not based on GPA, as I noted; it's automatic for the top (35% now?) of the class. If the highest GPA in the graduating class was a 2.5, the top (35%?) of the class would still be invited to join. So you can see why it is considered controversial by some. Still, it is the national nursing honor society, so ...

It looks great on a CV, plus the publications I think are cool - research stuff by nurses, about nurse stuff - online link up to information as well. I think it is worth the moola.

I am a member of STT and at my school they CONSIDERED the top 35% but those students still had to be approved by a board of faculty and there had to be a unanimous vote to invite you. Its quite an honor!

I hope that I get invited to be in the nursing honor society at my school, although I think I'd be just as happy to be in the "C Means Continue" honor society, aka graduation. :chuckle

Induction in our honor society is just the straight-up top 35%.

i just got invited to join stt myself and my induction ceremony is the middle of next month. there's pros and cons to joining. it's all what you make of it. i do think it's pretty expensive to join though. $85 plus the cost of a key pin. i hope it's worth it!!

both the gpa (3.0 or better) and the class ranking (top 35%) are required. the 3.5 gpa is for grad students. from the stt website:

there are three classifications of membership. the classifications are:

  • undergraduate student - junior or senior students enrolled in baccalaureate programs at institutions of higher education that have a sigma theta tau international chapter who have completed at least 1/2 of the nursing curriculum, rank in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class and have a minimum gpa of 3.0.
