NSC SPRING 2018 hopefuls

U.S.A. Nevada

Hi guys, I'm currently finishing up my prerequisites at CSN and some at NSC in the summer and fall to apply for the nursing program in spring 2018 if not summer 2018. During the summer I will take chem 112 at nsc for the first session and on the second session I will take span 111 with medical terminology. During the fall I plan to take Pathophysiology with Nutrition both at NSC. Do you guys think it's doable to take patho with nutrition because it seems that everyone has been telling me that patho is difficult already by itself. But then again I took my AP 2 with Micro along with 2 other electives before. So I'm not really sure if I should just take nutrition with chem 112 during the summer or just wait to take it with patho in the fall session? Any advice from former graduates or current students that are applying to the NSC program would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much in advance!

Oh nice! I have a 3.7 and also got all As in those classes. Did you apply for full time? I know I'm praying that I do but not counting on it. It sounds like you will get in because you got As in those courses.

Hmmm i dont know about that but my advisor from nsc told me that info herself. Summer track is basically full time bc you start from summer 2018 and finish summer of 2019

Hi so I spoke with NSC nursing and you are right! That is awesome this way I have two options for an accelerated option. I thought it was only UNLV. So I really appreciate you telling me about that! Do you know by chance the summer deadline like an approximate month? I spoke to Nursing Admissions and the young lady stated she didn't remember that it may be November or December. I have written down march but I'm not sure where I saw that information. The website only has Fall information on there now for 2017. I want to try and aim for summer 2018 if possible. Thank you!

They said the deadline is January for summer 2018. The deadline for speing 2018 is around december. They'll usually post the dates on their website as it get closer to the deadline. Oh and Unlv wasn't an option for me bc there are more prerequisites that they are asking for plus its more expensive as far as tuition and they dont take the teas exam they only accept HESI.

Just want to wish you all the best of luck! You got this.

Hi guys! Sorry to interrupt your awesome convo but I was wondering if you could provide me with some info! I'm currently a student at unlv I graduate in December with my bachelors in sociology. I am looking into going to NSC for nursing next. I want to start taking whatever prerequisites I can as soon as possible. I was wondering when I could apply for the nursing program based on the classes I would still need to take, the prerequisite classes I'd need are as follows:

bio 223 (already did 189)

bio 224

bio 251

Chem 110 & other classes you need to get in to the nursing program that are specific to nursing students. (I have all math, humanities, English, etc considering I'll have a Bachelors degree soon)

how long do you think it will take me to do these prerequisites? And when would I be looking at applying?? Thanks for al your help- would wanna start taking classes this fall! :)

Hi there! It sounds like you have a great plan! Unfortunately you cannot apply to the nursing program itself until Biol 223, 224, and 251 have been completed. You can however apply to NSC as a pre-nursing major then once you complete the required prerequisites you can then apply to the nursing program. As far as how long it will take, Biol 223 is a prerequisite to 224. You can however take 224 and 251 together. So you should be able to complete these classes in 2 semesters. You may be able to apply to the program with Chem hanging over, but I am not too sure. I completed all of them prior to applying. Best of luck to you!

Hey there thanks for your quick response! That sounds very doable for me. If I were to complete these prerequisites fall 17 and spring 18 would I be able to apply for summer 18? Also after that how long is the program? I was reading 15 months, I just wanted to be sure that's how long it would be! Thanks for all your help :)

It is my understanding that 223, 224, and 251 have to be completed prior to applying. That would mean the soonest you could apply would be Fall 2018. When applying for the Fall, the only options would be the full time and part time tracks. The accelerated track is offered only in the summer, to my knowledge, and yes, I believe the accelerated track is 15 months. The full time track is 2 years, or 4 normal semesters. The part time is 2 1/2 years including winter and summer sessions. I would suggest speaking with an advisor to confirm all of this however this was what my advisor told me a few months ago. I just applied for the full time track and I am still waiting to hear if I was accepted. The wait is brutal! Lol

Alright! Thank you so much for the information and good luck to you!

Same to you! And congrats on the upcoming completion of your bachelor's degree! That is awesome :)

Hi there ! Keep in mind you also need two more classes and the ones you mentioned above which are Chs 421 which is a pre-requisite for Chem.112 and nurs337 is a pre-requisite for all three sciences courses so you can't take it until you have completed biology 223 224 251. I would advise to take chemistry first since it's a pre-requisite for biology 251 and Chs 421 . Or to take biology 251 at Csn. I think you will be able to apply for the fall 2018 best of luck to you .

Hi FitNurse_92

Make sure you take Med. Term. at NSC..I took HIT 117 at csn.. and had to take Nurs. 140 at NSC (HIT 117B-Medical Terminology I from CSN does not count as a previously completed course.)...this is per their website, unless they have changed the pre-req.
