there is no letter in my announcements.....hmmmmm........what gives?

I got the letter as well. Wonder why some people don't have it. Here's what it said.

Students,

First of all, I realize this email does not pertain to the majority of our hard-working, honest students. We appreciate and honor the work you do! However:

After the Memorial Day holiday, we have received many emails from students asking us to re-open the last quiz, and some asking for late assignments and discussion boards to be accepted well after their due date. Unfortunately, we have also had incidents with students submitting work that is not their own.

I would like you to consider for a moment that this is a BSN course-- BSN is the professional level of nursing and you are held to professional standards. You are, for the most part, already RNs and employed in health care settings. How long would you remain employed if you:

Gave your meds late 3 days in a row?

Were too busy to give a patient a needed treatment?

Repeatedly left your work for the person on the next shift to do?

Or:

Argued with your supervisor that you deserve a break because you:

Didn't know the schedule;

Didn't feel like getting up in the morning?

How long would you remain employed if you falsified records at your facility?

This is course has real responsibilities, and the main responsibility in a fast-paced 5 week course lies with you, the student. It is up to you to read all of module instructions, to-do lists and checklists; your TA's announcements; and meet the deadlines. These are all provided to help you be successful!

As well, it is up to you to know how to upload and submit documents accurately and then please check to see if the document is the correct one and that it did upload properly. We provide you with an orientation program and many helpful hints throughout the program to help you know how to do this.

Most importantly, it is your professional duty to be honest. We have seen many attempts to justify cheating and plagiarizing here, and you could be heading down a slippery slope to eventually doing it at work.

The TAs are very busy trying to grade your papers and get your grades back to you as quickly as possible. Grading late papers from the previous week is like leaving your work for the next shift. It creates an unfair burden on the TAs. We do know there are legitimate situations and we will respond to them if the TA or I am notified in a timely manner.

The syllabus, as one student pointed out, is a contract, and as such we instructors and TAs may accept late papers with late points assigned. Remember, though, that those late points may increase if you make late assignments a habit. You all have a full week to complete the assignments and quizzes. Leaving it to the last minute can cause problems, as some of you have experienced. Again, we will work with students who have unforeseen and unfortunate issues-- we do care!

As a student, you also are an active partner in that contract/syllabus and have responsibilities as well:

Meet the clear deadlines. Know your student handbook. Contact your TA with questions in a timely manner. Read the announcements and emails your TA sends out. Do not cheat or plagiarize. And above all, take pride in your education and your profession. This is an opportunity to better yourself professionally, personally and financially. Take advantage of this opportunity!

This is handsdown the EASIEST class I have ever taken...anywhere. I could have tripled up this time around without any problems. I am shocked that people are having to cheat in this class.

Has anyone looked at those web article from the office of minority health. One is 249 pages. Seriously, they expect us to read this? What a joke. The executive summary is one thing, but the entire document is assigned reading. NO WAY I am reading this..

I read through portions of it and found a nice quote from it - and was able to use it for citations. I started with the table of contents and picked through the ones that I wanted to focus on and skimmed through the rest. The part I chose - I really studied it - I finally realized that it might help my grades if I actually cited from the reading material in addition to other sources, also this would help the TA find the source faster and make it easier to grade.

I had problems too. It seemed odd to me. I figured out you had to cut and paste the link into the browser. But got an announcemnt from my TA today that prof agreed to curve the quiz due to so many technical issues.

I am really glad, b/c I didn't do so well on the quiz. I think I read everything that was assigned in the book, but it was just way too much to remember specific things, really specific things... if you know what I mean. If they had said, there will be this kind of question or that topic, I would have been able to focus my study, but for 161 pages of information to cover in one week and not tell you what to direct your study on was unfair.

So, Yeah curve!

I spent way too much time for the DB this week. Having to read through the info on the 4 laws and pick one to study in debth was a lot of work for a Discussion Board. I felt like I was writing a term paper, and had to whittle it down to 3 or 4 paragraphs.

Maybe I need to relax about this, but gosh, I'm beginninhg to feel paranoid.

You just want to be thorough - nothing wrong with that - the squeezing it into a few paragraphs - now that takes talent. Go girl!

Hey Emjean - your experience is great! How is it that you find this class the easiest? Can you give those of us who are agonizing over the APA etc pointers?

Specializes in Psych/AOD.

@Emjean - I have found this class to be one of the easiest too and wish I had tripled up on classes this time. I have several BSN RN classes under my belt and I suppose I am used to the APA formatting requirements. I don't love APA and I do get dinged on issues with APA and references. I am just finished agonizing over it. After the inconsistency issues I had the last 5 weeks in NRS 325, this class is a breeze. Overall, I have found the BSN program to be eaiser than the ADN program. I'm sorry that some of you are having a difficult time in this class and I wish I had some words of wisdom but I do not. There is only one week left, I know that you can all get through this class!

I agree! But I think that is why I've sort of "checked out" already. Ugh! I just want to be done with this class and start my summer. I still have to do the assignment, DB replies and the test yourself. I'll do it tomorrow. I probably shouldn't procrastinate, but I am.

Got an 80 on my final test and I am really OK with that. Review all the previos test yourself questions an material.
