NPs exempt (salaried) or non-exempt (hourly)?

Hi there! Are NPs in your organization exempt (salaried), or non-exempt (hourly) thus with potential to get paid for overtime.

In the clinic, I'm salaried.

In the hospital, I'm hourly.

Thanks. Where I work, NPs are salaried but we get premium pay for additional 4 hour shifts (our base rate - not overtime - X 4 hours). But someone told me that most NPs are hourly.

Most NPs with whom I have contact, are under contract and that position is salaried.

I'm salaried! However, I have a bonus plan to for productivity.

All mid-levels in our hospital are salaried. However, there is a provision in our job description allowing us to be paid at a mid-level hourly overtime rate for anything over 40 hours a week. Of all mid-levels, our group of ICU NP's are the only ones that work shifts. Because of this, we also have provisions for shift and weekend work differential like the RN's do.

After going though articles here, I am so disappointed about being a NP. Their paycheck is worse than what I expected. It seems that most NP are salaried and get poductivity bonus. I asked one of NPs in my hospitial if they really can get bonus. she said she is salaied but if you go to clinic, you can get bonus. Do they really get productivity bonus? It seems that most NPs don't get bonus even after they bill four hundred thousand something!!!.

Is it true?

I am unsure why you are disappointed. If you are looking to go into the NP profession soley for the money, you are going to be disappointed. While, I am not an NP, I work and refer to a number of them. Pretty much all the NP's in our market are on Salary. Most of them have some sort of bonus. It's also true that most of them could make more money as RN's. If you are only in it for the money then any mid-level practice is probably not for you (CRNA being the possible exception).
