NP malpractice insurance

Published

I am a new grad in Texas starting my first job as a NP.

I wanted to poll others about how they are being covered with . Are you having to provide your own coverage? Is your company providing coverage?

Can anyone recommend a good, affordable malpractice insurance provider?

Thanks for any advice!

I have coverage thru my employer plus my personal policy thru NSO

Employer plus a personal 3/5mil policy via the AANP.

Insurance thru my employers, and then NSO policy of my own. I have no doubt that my employers (well, one of them anyway) would leave me twisting in the wind if an issue occurred.

I always kept an NSO policy as an RN, and I think I'll probably get one as an NP as well. Yes my employer will cover malpractice, but I think you need someone really covering YOU and your interests. When I looked at the basic policy it cost about $1200/year.

Absolutely get your own malpractice, in addition to whatever your employer provides. Your employer coverage most likely does not cover license issues, for example. Always a good idea.
