Nova Southeastern

Published

Today I am sending my application to Nova Southeastern for the Fall 2009. Excited and hopeful. Give me a shout out if you are sending your application as well.:yeah:

I'm so excited and can't wait. I was told during the interview that it would be 100 students. When exactly do we start? I know our days are from 9-5 :(

Well... today I think I almost decided to stay home and go to Ft. Lauderdale instead of Ft. Myers. I dont get to move away from home, but I get to save $45,000 in loans. But im still unsure... * I have to decide by Monday*

What do you think?

Well, you just have to think about the reasons why you wanted to go to Fort Myers in the first place. You might want to consider that Fort Myers is an off-campus distance education. This is what it says on the Nova website about off campus locations:

"These centers are serving students at a distance from the main campus with computer labs, videoconferencing equipment, and SMART classrooms. In addition, the centers are staffed with full-time employees to help with registration, enrollment, and financial aid. The student educational centers create an on-campus atmosphere for students by offering chances to develop friendships, form study groups, and use videoconferencing equipment to connect with the NSU main campus. These centers are convenient and accessible for many students. The student educational centers have established high-quality and efficient services that enable students to finish their degrees successfully as well as provide students with an experience that contributes to their personal and professional development."

The thing to consider is that it's going to be classes through videoconferencing...meaning you'll be taught through someone at the main campus via the television. Think about what your learning style is, and everything else that made you want to go to Fort Myers in the first place and then see what's going to be best for you. I thought about leaving also but that'll mean taking yourself out of your comfort zone or, you know, out of your element. So not only are you going to be stressed about school but you'll be stressed about being in a different environment. I don't know about you but I fell in love with the main Nova campus during our tour. After I saw the school, I didn't think twice between Nova and all the other schools I had applied to. Hope this helps...:)

You have no idea how much you have helped. I was just so excited about moving out but I think that its a much better opportunity to go to Ft. Lauderdale, I just needed somebody to lay it out for me. Im bringing my deposit down today. THANKS!

No problem...glad I could help. I went this morning to pay my deposit and turn in my application for the Scholars Program. I live in the Kendall area and it only took my 35 minutes to go to school this morning (I left at 7am). There was absolutely no traffic, which was great! The lady that helped me today with the payment said it'll take a few days to a week for the payment to go through. She said that it'll go through the nursing department first and then go to the Bursar's Office which is accepting payments from ALL the colleges entering classes. So don't freak out if the payment doesn't go through for a while.

I have been searching the nova website for when the first day of class but cannot find it anywhere! Does anyone know when the first day is? Also do we have to go to Orientation? I just saw something about it on the website the other day (may not even be for entry-level nursing) for May 31st and know that I cannot get there because I live in California! I am trying to plan out my summer so that I can have enough time to move my whole life out there! Is anyone else living on-campus??

I tried to look for info on the orientation but I came up with nothing. I believe the website you checked out was for the graduate programs because it said for the Ph.D Nursing program for May 31st. Although I couldn't find the date for our orientation, I was able to find the website for the orientation information for this last semester (January 2009). This is the web address:

http://www.nova.edu/cwis/hpdasa/orientation/entrylevel/

I'm sure though that we'll get more information as soon as our payments go through, etc. I'm thinking of giving my two weeks notice for work the week of Aug 17-21 (so the 21st would probably be my last day). I have a feeling that orientation is going to be the 25th.

Thank you for responding! I was under the impression that it would start earlier but those dates sound about right. I think that the 21st is also when the dorms let you move in so I guess that works out. Is anyone else living in the dorms? It has been years since I've lived in dorms but I am kind of excited for I recently moved out of my apartment and know what a hassle that is! The dorms are furnished so that makes my move from California that much easier! Plus I remember fighting for parking and having to leave 30-40 min earlier for class versus waking up and walking to class without the hassel of parking! It's going to be like freshman year all over again (just more serious and educated!).

ok two questions...

1. Does anybody know about the parking situation there? ( I am coming from FAU, where you dont register for classes after 11 because you wont be able to park)

2. Do we pick our classes or does the school just do it for us?

When I went there this morning (it was before 8am), there was maybe like 10 visitor parking spots next to the garage that's next to the HPD Bldg. When I left there like at 9:30, there was only another person and myself in those parking spots. I don't know if it had anything to do with it being Friday...who knows. The number of times I've been to Nova for like events or to study in their library, I've noticed that they have like metered parking in the garages. I don't know if it was just that one garage by the Law School Bldg or if it's like that in all of them.

If you check out the link for the orientation from last semester, you'll see that it says that someone will register us for the first semester and then we register ourself for the rest of the semesters. Hope this helps....

Updates anyone?

Has everyone paid their acceptance fees already? I went to pay mine on Monday. I paid the whole thing, instead of going back and forth for the other 2 payments. I also applied to Baptist, has anyone received any status on that yet? When are they going to call us from Baptist? I'm very exited and anxious. Please post your advices, comments, and updates.
