NOVA Need to switch Clinical Assignments

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

Hi everyone...I just attended the nursing orientation.

I was wondering if anyone wanted to switch the clinicals with me?

Mine are in Leesburg and Falls Church, and I'm in Dale City...these clincals are about 40 mins away from me!

Looking for something in Manassas, and Reston.

Please PM me!

If you send me ur email addy, I can send you the booklist as well as the readings. I bought my books of of half.com

For my first clinical I was assigned for Sibley Hosp. in DC. Naturally, I freaked at first, but then I learned that the girl sitting next to me in orientation is in my same clinical. We decided we'll eventually meet up somewhere and drive into DC together. Mrs. Vito also told us that we would probably all have to eventually do every clinical site so it might be better to get the further clinical sites out of the way. The harder the classes get, the better it will be to be closer to the clinical site = more study/review time. :)

As I understood, we won't have the same instructor or location twice. I will be fine this semester, but next... I didn't even get into NUR150 this semester. I don't know what happened, but that class was full two seconds after 10 am.

I like your positive attitude about clinical location. :yeah: Good luck!

One literally has to have their classes in their "basket" and ready to go! Majority of students are sitting by their computer raring to go! lol Keep checking back constantly, as people do change their minds and drop out last minute!!

ha, I did have everything in my basket and still didn't get the spot.Oh well.

Silly question. Flames9, do people walk around the hospital with raspberry or purple stethoscopes? I didn't get one yet.:uhoh21:

No, those people are locked up!! lol I suppose so, i have never really noticed!!

Depending on who ur prof is, you wont be wearing the stethoscope around ur neck, but it is to be kept in your pocket----keep diseases from spreading is the rationale. I bought a boring black one.

Ya, its sort of luck of the draw when it comes to classes. gets worse in second yr when u get to pick your own clinicals. And YES you can work at the same hospital more than once, just not the same dept. I did OB at Fairfax, and back again for Psych!

Flames9, thank you for all of your answers to my questions. I think I over think things sometimes.:icon_roll I hope nursing school will kick the perfectionist out of me (in a good way).:chuckle

Sometimes its good to have "odd" colored items, as you know its urs,and less likely to walk away!

Yea I was on the nova website this morning trying to see if anyone forgot to pay...lol...so I could get a closer clinical. The only two I see open are Mrs. A's and the one that switches into Mrs. A's. We know why about that. So I guess I'll be going to VHC. Then I go to MVH second semester.

Why are people afraid of her? I haven't dealt with her yet, I am in the online program so there are some profs I just haven't dealt with yet.

I was considering that clinical if I can't find anyone to switch with me for the other one I wanted (oB7h/oA7h), because now I need a Tuesday/Wednesday one.

I have read her review on ratemyprofessor, but it didn't really say much that would be applicable to clinical. I have heard that she teaches you a lot about time management and you improve your skills a lot under her. I am just curious about what the consensus on her is, in a clinical setting.

Oh, and I have been talking to the business office and financial aid office, and this semester they have had a huge delay in dropping people for nonpayment, because of a huge backlog in financial aid application processing. So keep checking!

MRS. A and time management? wow. She sure didnt show it in 1st yr lectures!! She gave good examples, but then would give many many examples!!! would be 5 min from class end and she would still have 1/4 of the lecture to give, but would just stop at 4 pm!! Rest you can go over on ur own, no time management there, lol

She is a nice lady, and no i have not have had her for clinical. And she is very bright, so I bet she has a lot of great knowledge to pass on.

I taee what rate my professor has to say with a grain of salt. I have had some great profs, bit according to that website, they suck. I find many students are just lazy, and expect to be spoon fed

That's really good to know. I heard that from another faculty member I had in my summer rotation- she said mrs. A. has students near the end of her clinical who have 4 patients and you will exit her clinical being prepared to work in the" real world". It sounded enticing to me because I currently don't have patient care experience (my current/former career is computer programming!), so I always feel a few steps behind the people who already work as CNAs or techs.

Oh, and I TOTALLY agree with this. I have just been wondering what would cause her clinical to be open when all the others were full - I figured there has to be a story or something, you know? lol.
