Not sure where I'm going

Nurses Recovery

Published

I'm applying for reinstatement very soon, and am very grateful for the opportunity. I never believed until recently that I'd have this opportunity, or that I'd even want to have it. Here I am! Yea!

My question is, what to do, if you have no idea what you want to do? I have ER, ICU, Open Heart Recovery, and PACU experience mostly; but I'm not sure if I want to do that or not.

I'm planning on taking a Legal Nurse Consulting certificate program at my local university, so that's an option.

Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks to all here!

That's awesome, Soror--I'm so happy for you!

I don't know what to tell you career-wise, but wherever you go you will bring a whole new world of experience with you. Me, I had no intention of ever working in corrections, but I've actually decided that I landed right where I'm supposed to be--my recovery journey has given me all kinds of useful tools for helping this particular patient population, and I'm very happy I wound up here. I guess all things happen for a reason!

Best of luck and lots of love!

Thank you CrissyD! I'm keeping an open mind, and do think my recovery journey will lead me to something interesting. It always has :)

I'm looking forward to it. I will say it's been a while since I've refreshed my resume. Does anyone know a good online organization or private individual that does this?

Hi, SororAKS,

Congratulations on getting to where you are! Have you considered private duty home care? It's very low key & very little stress. There also doesn't seem to be much access to narcotics in home care (except with hospice patients).

As far as relapsing goes, I'm one of the lucky few who has never relapsed. As of January 2nd I have 27 years of continuous sobriety. I get very frustrated in meetings when someone says "relapses happen to everyone ". It simply is not true. Relapse doesn't have to be part of the recovery process. I think it all depends on how good a program you're working & how well you use whatever support system you have available. I'm not saying that in 27 years the thought of drinking has never occurred to me. When the thoughts have come, though, I know I have other alternatives. I have very few friends who are not in some sort of recovery program. We all know we can call each other any time of the day or night. In addition, my husband is also a recovering alcoholic so we have each other for recovery support.

Did you find a job?

i hope I am posting this correctly. I can't see what I am writing on my screen. I read what you wrote and all I can say is "wow!!! If you made it through all of that - you can do anything! Congrats! I don't believe you will have any problems doing whatever you set your mind to. You are a survivor.
