Not sure how to handle this employment dilemma... help?

Nurses General Nursing

Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read this.

So I'm currently unemployed with 3 months of nursing experience (fired in July) and 16 months graduated with my BSN. My aunt told me about a weekend position at her job (she's a nurse as well) and she told me it was full-time and her boss was looking for resumes. She sent my resume in and the manager emailed me the next day asking when i am available for an interview. Upon looking at their website I see that the open position is actually part-time, 5/6 weekends, and a one year commitment. I don't think I can swing this as I would have to take another part time position and most other positions require every other third weekend.

I'm not sure how to email the manager back. My aunt said they're short staffed and might be willing to negotiate but as a new nurse with not so much experience I feel weird about making demands when i don't have a lot to offer.

Thoughts and advice is appreciated. Thanks again.

Just go and see what happens!

What is posted on line isn't always the most accurate picture of what is actually available.

By going to the interview, you may be offered something that works for you. If not, well maybe they'll think of you when something comes up that does fit what your looking for.

And, don't discount the experience of going through a job interview.

Should I email asking for clarification about the position first?

I wouldn't. As a PP said, online job descriptions are often out-dated or just plain wrong.

Go anyway. Mention that even if you are part time, you are eager to pick up extra shifts. A short staffed unit manager would look favorably on a nurse willing to work extra.

I agree with everyone above me! Also, part time trumps unemployed. Maybe use this job for some experience and then keep looking!

Go anyway, any interview is good experience. If she is willing to negotiate make sure to get the commitment in writing....

Go to the interview. You have not been offered the job, yet. Who knows it is possible you might find another part time job. And having a part time job is better than no job.

I currently have 5 part time jobs. I did not plan this, it just happened.
