I have been told I have a few ovarian cysts, I am not seeking medical advice on this forum, I just want to know how others have dealt with this and or how you managed to get through the waiting knowing if it was malignant or benign. I am driving myself crazy with this. Pardon the ignorance but I am not an ob/gyn nurse. Thanks

I had a very large cyst on one of my ovaries a few years ago...10cm!!! Caused a lot of pain and had totally engulfed my ovary. It was benign, but I had it surgically removed. So I only have one ovary...but one year later I got preggers with my youngest!

I've had a cyst on my ovary a few years ago. The pain was debilitating and I really thought it was going to be the end of me. Horrible.

I've always heard that the "pain scale" outside of cancer was MI, open femur fracture, childbirth, ovarian cyst rupture, pancreatitis/splenic rupture.

I wonder what poor soul had all those things happen so they could rank them....

Thanks...now I don't feel like such a wuss for the last time I went to the ED with an ovarian cyst that was bleeding. I'd rather have a 3 week migraine than another cyst, but even on birth control, I get cysts. I can say it ranks up there with cholecystitis, and was definitely more painful than pancreatitis r/t the cholecystitis. Even with vicodin and motrin, I hurt too much to sleep more than 1-2 hours at a time. I hate them. Sorry for the thread hijack, just had to vent.

I have ovarian cysts, and have had them for freaking years. I can always tell which ovary is producing that month, because I have pain in either the left or right side. Every. Freaking. Month. Sometimes it totally sucks to be female!

The first time I had an ovarian cyst, (20 years ago) I thought that I had appendicitis. The pain was right at McBurney's point. I experienced excruciating pain upon palpation. It even hurt to sit down. Imagine my surprise when the ultrasound showed this tiny little cyst on my right ovary that was literally bringing me to tears!

When this problem became chronic, my gyn scheduled me for a dx lap to see what was going on with my girlie bits. She found a large ovarian cyst, and drained 60cc of fluid out. She also told me that my fallopian tubes were very convoluted and that I would likely not be able to get pregnant because of this. Not exactly devastating news to me because at that time, I was wavering on the decision to have kids or not. This finding made my decision for me.

I don't know if there is anything you can do about ovarian cysts. I have just acclimated to the pain. Hopefully at my age, I won't have to deal with it much longer!

I feel for you, and I totally understand where your concerns are focused. Make sure that you are vigilant about seeing your gyn for check ups.

I wish you all the best!

canuke, me too on the appy. I just knew I' blown my appendix, or maybe my gallbladder. Board like abdomen, pain, temp, the whole thing. All I could think of was a patient we had that died from a gangrenous gallbladder that she kept thinking she could treat at home...

I was very disappointed when I had my TAH/BSO that the doc didn't take pictures. I wanted to see what was making me think my bellybutton was going to "unbutton."

But then, as a coworker pointed out, I'd have posted them on my locker and grossed everybody out...."You think YOU had a bad day, I did compressions on 2 patients with THIS growing inside of me!"

Yep...the last cyst, I collapsed, couldn't walk, ran a temp, puking my guts out. The ED MD was nice, but his attending lectured me about coming to the ED about this isn't something you come the ED with. "it's not like we do surgery on ovarian cysts". Jeez thanks, that one still burns me. My OB/GYN has always told me if I thought I had a rupture to go to the ED, so I will continue to follow her advice...but for some reason my feelings get extra sensitive when I am sick.
