Not Nursing related, but Healthcare related

Nurses General Nursing

Can someone please tell me other areas of Healthcare people work in? I am thinking about Nursing, but I'm just not smart enough for university. And it does get me down trying to think of what to do. I definitely know I want to work in a hospital setting doing something to help others.

Many thanks,

Martina.

What do you mean, "Not smart enough"???

Healthcare in the US includes occupational, physical, and speech therapies; dentistry, home health, respiratory therapy, phlebotomy, radiology, cardiac lab. I'm sure there are many others but those are the ones that come to my mind first.

Specializes in ob/gyn med /surg.

if i can do it.. you can do it... go for it !!

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

this is a list from the u.s. department of labor, so the information is geared to the u.s., but it will give you an idea of what other kinds of jobs are out there in healthcare. when my back started going bad i started studying medical coding (great britain started the ball rolling on that career) which involves no contact with patients and involves reading doctors statements and classifying the final diagnoses, treatments that were performed and setting them up for billing. in socialized medicine systems and the world health organization, this is how the government and the who is able to tract how the healthcare is delivered and the money being spent within the various systems. we use these coding systems in america to assist in paying the patient's medical bills. in general, there are careers where there is direct involvement with patients and careers that are more behind the scenes and business related. check out the links because they are explanations of the different careers on this website. the actual careers may be slightly re-titled in your country.

Specializes in midwifery, NICU.

Martina, you could find a post as an auxilliary nurse, work for a while alongside registered nurses, and see how you feel then. You may find that you find the confidence in your own ability to be able to move further on! Whatever you do..be happy! Godd luck to you!

Thanks. I have seen a few posts at local hospitals, but they require 6 months experience. I have an interveiw for voluntary work at a hospital on 2nd Auguat. We're not allowed to get involved in clinicals, but least I'll get some experience of what it's like working in a hospital. I've only ever been a pt lol. I'd be happy even with a position as a porter. Can woman be porters? I've actually never seen any so far.
