Hello,

I decided to make a thread for everyone who's applied to Northwell's April 2022 fellowships. I applied to all of the April 2022 ED fellowships.

@Curlynursern Thanks! I got an invite to the emergency on-demand, but my top choice is critical care so I emailed the recruiter to see if I should put my top choice or stick with emergency. I haven't heard a thing from the critical care positions ?

@_allnurse I’m not 100% sure, all I can say is that when they ask you to complete your video interview, one of the questions is “which one specialty do you choose and why”. So I think it’s possible you may have to narrow it down yourself. You should be able to talk to a recruiter to clarify before then though! Good luck !!

This may be such a silly question, but how do the recruiters work? I was under the impression that there was a recruiter for each hospital. Am I allowed to talk to my recruiter to Inquire about other hospitals? Initially I didn’t mention my top choice to my recruiter because I didn’t want to ruin my chances with the hospital she had contacted for me! I’m realizing I may have been viewing this all wrong!

Honestly, I have no idea. I emailed asking about the process of the fellowship programs in general and my recruiter never answered me back. I have to complete the interview by today and I don't know if I should continue with emergency or go with my top choice. I wish there was a number I can call. I might contact the northwell fellowship email.

Ugh that is frustrating. You can try the fellowship email but in my experience, they don’t reply back quickly, if ever.

Its confusing, I’m not entirely sure how the recruiter works either. I do know that my recruiter said it was within her scope to set up interviews at LIJ AND Manhasset for me (if manhasset decided to do the fellowship). Since I only applied to oncology, I wasn’t told what the online video was for—- but I knew it was general (could be accessed by all hospitals I applied to). To my understanding, the recruiter watches your video and decides if you get the in person interview. At least that’s what happened in my case. When I got to the in person interview, they hadn’t watched the video. At least I think so, because they asked me some of the same questions.

I think if they sent you the link for emergency…. And if it specifically says emergency fellowship on it.. it might be best to go w emergency fellowship but I don’t want to steer you a certain way assuming that all fellowships/recruiters work the same

Hi! I applied to all of the oncology fellowships and I actually just got my offer letter from LIJ! Sooo happy, I really thought it was a long shot that I heard back at all

I know a few people who were asked to complete the on-demand video interview (1st step interview recorded via webcam) for ED and Critical Care who were contacted within the last week. I heard back about 2-3 weeks ago and I was the first person to have heard back out of all the people I know who applied to fellowships (also the only person to apply for onc) …so don’t get nervous!

I think it’s still early! In previous threads I saw that they were still interviewing in late march for the April fellowship.

Good luck to you guys ? lmk if you have any questions about the app process!

Actually another question for you - I saw that onc was a 16 week fellowship, are you guaranteed a job after completing the fellowship? I know I saw somewhere for critical care it was a 2 year commitment - not sure what it was for oncology as I didn’t see much listed? Thanks for any info!

It is also a two year commitment! You are accepting a job/signing a contract for a specific unit when you accept the fellowship. The fellowship rolls right into the job on the unit (and a large portion of the fellowship is preceptorship on that unit)

I did clarify with the recruiter who said the 2 year commitment is to the Northwell system, same specialty, and ideally same unit but worst case scenario… no one can/will stop you from transferring units/hospitals (within Northwell oncology) if that’s what has to happen before 2 years

Oh that’s great to know! Are you able to have a choice in terms of the type of oncology or do they just assign you? (Obviously based on what’s available, but wasn’t sure if you could give preferences)

@Curlynursern Yeah, I agree with you. It does specifically say emergency fellowship so I will continue with that. Maybe if I can get further interviews somewhere down the line I can share my preference. I'm honestly thankful to get any fellowship at Northwell so I'll be happy either way!

I’m sure you could but I know when I interviewed there were only 4 onc spots available at LIJ and she just set me up with the interview and I didn’t ask anything after that except if I could also interview at manhasset.

The interview they set up for you is with staff/management from that specific unit where the job is available. Mine was a medical onc floor. That same floor offered me the position

I was hoping for more of a critical onc/BMT floor but I’m happy with anything honestly. I just wana learn and have the support of the fellowship LOL

that's so helpful, thank you! I applied to the NYC location, so I guess we'll see what they have if I get a response! haha - appreciate the info!!

Does anyone know when they will do the in person interviews? I did the on demand video two weeks ago and haven't heard back yet.

Hi,

I don't have my RN license yet, but I want to apply to the April fellowship do you have any feedback on this?

Thanks ?

Hi everyone. I wanted to give some updates and also ask a question about the interview process for the fellowships. After applying, I heard back from a recruiter (I want to say maybe a week to two weeks later) who set me up with the on-demand video interview. One week later, I got the call from that hospital's unit to schedule an in-person interview.

I don't go in for that interview for another week, but I was curious, for anyone who has applied to the Northwell fellowship and then was offered the job, was the in-person interview process a series, or were you offered the position after only one in-person interview? If so, how long after that interview were you offered the position?

Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone!
