Northwell Health Nurse Fellowship April 2021

Nurses New Nurse

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone,

I haven't seen a thread for the 2021 Northwell nurse fellowships so I figured I might as well started. Has anyone been able to apply for any of their fellowships. I wanted to do the critical care fellowship but I have not been able to find the application on the website. Is anyone else having this issue ?? Please let me know.

Can you send it to me. I will definitely get it once cleared but it’s so close I like to prepare a little bit LOL. My email is [email protected]

How’s the fellowship going so far?

Can anyone who got into the fellowship describe the breakdown of the fellowship schedule? I know that there are three phases, but if you can offer more details?

In the OR, its great. In the classroom, its boring and just powerpoint slides. Only good thing about classroom are the simulations which are kind of helpful. But its practically Nursing school 2.0 LOL

The schedule starts with 3days didactics/2days in the OR. 8 weeks of didactics(classroom) with assignments from aorn that will all lead to a final exam at the 8th week and exams throughout the 8 weeks. After the 8th week, it becomes 5 8hr shifts in the OR where you circulate for the whole week and then transition into scrubbing. Back and forth b/w specialties. I think thats all the info I can remember right now LOL

Anyone have any updates?

Hi! Just applied for the Peri operative fellowship at Lenox. How do you guys like it so far? And can I prepare for the on demand interview or once I click the link it’s no turning back?

hi! Im just wondering to see how you enjoyed your periop experience (seeing as by now, it has probably concluded haha). I am being interviewed for the Lenox periop fellowship and just want to get a feel for how they prepared you!

Hi! I'm a *soon to be* nursing graduate and was wondering if anyone had done any of the pediatric fellowships and would be able to tell me about their experience? It would be a dream to work in peds (but I am completely open to working med-surg first and then applying to work in peds later in my nursing career if I do not receive any job offers for the peds specialty) and I am planning on applying to one of the northwell peds fellowships. Right now I am thinking about doing hematology/oncology but would love to hear about someone's experience/recommendations!

Hi everyone im so happy I found this thread! I applied to as an internal to the Critical Care Fellowship at LIJ for April. Anyone hear anything? Anyone who has recently done the fellowship have any advice or stories/information to share about how it all went? Thanks!

Hey guys!! Can anyone that was accepted into the Critical Care Fellowship at LIJ provide a break up of the schedule? I was told the first 5 months we work and have classes every day but if someone can further expand on the program that would be great! Thanks

Not sure if you still need this info, from my understanding it would be the same as North Shore University Hospital's layout for Critical Care fellowship because during my fellowship we had a nurse from Lenox Hills who was the only one in his hospital's fellowship so he joined ours and his was the same.

Phase 1 (8 weeks): Didactics - ECCO modules broken up into schedules for the week ( they take a lot longer than outlined and require studying - to be successful of course) In classroom learning days - varies each week, usually at least once a week to go over your assigned topic to write up on and work on a group case study, and at most 2-3 days in classroom. One day a week (for us was fridays) for simulations (about 3 hours) and when all assigned coursework for the week was checked : ECCO modules + iLearns. One day a week (for most weeks) on the unit in either an 8 or 12 hour shift depending on how the week scheduled following any preceptor.

Towards the end of phase 1 - learning shifts to allow for unit based learning time, mostly at home, or split up days to cover specific skills/training specific to the units, ex: some units cover Lumbar drains, Impella, LVADs,

Phase 2: Assigned a preceptor on days/nights - however your unit structures it and follow your preceptor(s) schedule. (8-12 weeks : depending on whether you have experience or are a new grad and how well you do during phase 2).

Phase 3 : I'm not sure why there is an unofficial "phase 3" but I guess it's just your probation time after fellowship. Pretty much there is no phase 3 unless you are a new grad, new grads start residency classes during phase 3 that meets once a month.

Hope this helps. Just be prepared on phase 1 to dedicate a lot of time to studying and keeping up with the learning as it moves fast.
