Northshore LIJ

U.S.A. New York

Hello all,

I am interested in knowing how much new grads make at Northshore LIJ? (base as well as night differential) Also how much do new grads make during their fellowship? is it the same?

I did pretty much the same thing. But I also created a nice packet with a cover letter, resume and letters of rec nicely put together in a large envelope and mailed them to different hospital's hiring departments. It actually got the attention of a few hospitals and I got a couple interviews out of it. I mentioned that I applied online as well (I didn't want to seem computer illiterate) but I think the effort meant a lot to certain recruiters and got their attention. They see internet apps all the time but no one sends mail anymore. With that, it's always nice to send a thank you email AND a thank you card via snail mail after a good interview. It will set you apart from other candidates. But overall I sent out probably 150 applications online before I got my first job.

Good luck!!

Is sending mail better? I did try going to hospitals to drop of my resumes even before passing the NCLEX and the guard or the receptionist would turn me away and tell me to apply online. But thank! I would try doing that! What hospital are currently working?

I'm at north shore. I don't think sending mail is better than online but it doesn't hurt to try! I seriously tried everything when I was looking.

Hi ChrisB718, congrats on getting the job! I was wondering how long it took for them to give you an offer after your interview? I'm currently working in another Northshore facility (non-hospital) and I've been applying to multiple hospitals like there's no tomorrow, went to 2 interviews in 2 different north shore hospitals but sadly no job offer (it's been almost a month for one and close to 2 weeks for the second)...Suffice it to say I'm pretty much losing hope....the sad part is I think LIJ prefers to hire new grads than experienced nurses cause I had a previous co-worker who had less than 6 months and she got an offer in tele. Yet, two other nurses that have 6 and 7 years of experience did not get a job offer either....I'm seeing a pattern here..... what does everyone else think?

Hi,

How are you? How much is tuition reimbursement? Which union and health insurance are used? Thank you in advance!

Hi Mae17 I didn't receive a job lol. I do work for the health system but not as a nurse. I think that's a good thing that they're giving new grads a chance because the market is tough for the inexperienced nurse. Also maybe these new grads have great referrals or know someone that works in the system, maybe? If you're really looking for a job I would suggest their flex staff. It can at least get your foot in the door. Good luck!

Hey!!!

I think everyone's story varies..

Hx: Dec 2015 grad. Feb 2016 pass boards..

applied to 4 positions total. Uploaded resume and transcript when applying. Interviewed March 4, Got the offer March 7. I dont know anyone in the system and I didn't get any employee referrals. Just applied.

Salary: 79k base + bsn + nights = a little above 86k ..

Just keep applying and remain positive. I believe if you put forth positive energy,

youll get it back.

Which positions did you apply for? I've applied to nearly 30 positions, and haven't heard anything

Northwell has a lot of different hospitals. The pay actually varies depending on which hospital you are at. Some of their hospitals are unionized. The two big ones North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center are not unionized. If I am not mistaken the base pay at NSUH is slightly higher than LIJ.

Keep in mind Northwell has more than just hospitals. They have Rehab facilities, ambulatory surgery centers, clinics. Really is a huge empire when it comes to health system. It might be easier to land a job at their sub-acute rehab facility, that is where my first job was.

I have been applying to almost all their job openings and was wondering if they may be annoyed to see people they consider unqualified (new-grads) applying over and over again. I hope that's not the case! :/

Does anyone know the PER DIEM rate for Northwell Health Plainview Hospital?

Would you know the PER DIEM rate for Northwell Plainview Hospital?

Lenox Hill is union, but they were before North-Shore-LIJ purchased the place, so believe that carries over.

In any event Northwell (formerly North Shore-LIJ) is rolling in cash, this despite what many say are not very generous salaries.

They just purchased an entire city block on UES of Manhattan (Third Avenue from 76th to 77th streets), that they are doing to redevelop into a new healthcare complex.

Meanwhile Northwell has been or plans to expand services at Lenox Hill South (part of the old Saint Vincent's campus in Greenwich Village).
