Northeastern Hybrid Direct Entry Nursing Spring 2014

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi All,

I just received news that I have been accepted into Northeastern's Direct Entry online accelerated nursing program. I am wondering if anyone else is also in the spring 2014 cohort? Just thought I would get a thread going to communicate details such as living arrangements, loans, what to expect etc.

NS14: I never spoke with anyone who is actually in the program, but read some people's comments on one of the NEU forums here. They were not overall that great, but I really don't think the program is all that bad. I don't think NEU would continue this program if it was that bad. It could be that those people are not doing well with the online thing and are blaming NEU for it...I don't know...It could be anything...

I applied for the fall. I guessing Brielle4 applied for the fall as well?

Eburg: yes I did

Thanks faith2014!

I feel the same way, people could just be complaining who did poorly...but with zero positive feedback out there and no one to turn to for answers I'm a bit hesitant.

I was accepted into the May cohort. Lindsay (my advisor?) said they may not even get the 72 students if there isn't enough "quality applicants" but that also if I don't sent in my deposit by the deadline, my spot will be immediately given to someone else because "it's so competitive for these May and Fall start dates."

I was confused at how they might not fill their quota for 72 and at the same time be filled with applications. I'm currently deciding between MGH IHP, Columbia, and NEU Hybrid but until I hear from some alumni..I can't place down a deposit for this program. On my pros and cons list...NEU had the most...but their cons were filled with "don't know a lot about," "only reviews were bad," etc.

I have tried PMing people on here but no response as well as facebooking randos but no response. I feel a bit helpless at this point and it may lead me to choose another school, simply, due to a lack of enough info...

I think they just want to pressure you to make a decision soon, that's why she said they may give your spot to someone else.

Did you hear from the other schools you applied to? If I had applied and gotten accepted into another school, I would pick the other school just to play it safe. I only applied to two schools so far; I am waiting to hear from the other school. I will only say yes to Northeastern if I don't get accepted into the other school I applied to. I feel like it's a lot of money we are putting into it and I want to make it worthwhile...

NS14: Did you hear from other schools?

I'm sorry NS14, wish we had more info! How long do you have to decide?

Eburgmeier: did you hear from them yet?

NS14: You have some excellent options if you have already been admitted to those schools, I completely understand your conflict! For me, the hybrid design is just a great fit and allows me to stay in the Boston area, otherwise I would definitely be considering my other options more seriously. I would recommend asking your advisor if maybe she could get you in contact with a current student in the program who is willing to talk with you.

Eburgmeier and Faith2014: Did you both apply for the fall? Or are you hoping for May?

Brielle4: I submitted my transcripts for a prereq that I had just completed and my advisor said she would send my application to the committee. I don't know for sure if it's for the fall or May yet. She told me both options were available for me, so I don't know. They are hard to get a hold of. I emailed them and they haven't responded, so I really don't know what's going on. If they got my transcripts on Wednesday, they will probably look at my application either today or tomorrow. Since my advisor didn't respond my email, I don't know where I'm at for sure.

Faith2014: Yeah I found it was a bit confusing contacting people but once I was able to get a hold of them they were really helpful. Once they received my transcript that they needed I think it took about 4-5 days so you are probably right. I found the best way to get in contact with my advisor when I needed her was to call the main number on the website and just request to make a phone appt. so that she kind of had to call me back haha. Good luck :) I am sure you will hear good news soon!

Thanks, brielle4! I just emailed my advisor. If she doesn't respond by the end of the day, I will make a phone appointment! Let's see how the day goes. I will keep u all posted.

Brielle4: you applied for the fall, right? Do you know how many applicats there were?

Faith2014: She didn't say how many applicants applied for fall, but I imagine not that many yet since most people who are applying right now are probably looking towards May. I am just finishing my undergrad at the end of May so I won't be able to do May start because my graduation date is too late, otherwise I totally would have done it!
