I got this email on the 10th. I submitted my applications 10/1. Try emailing the graduate admissions contact info On the website to check. I’ve done that for a few schools who haven’t updated nursing cas as having received my transcript and they are very responsive.

i have heard from past years applicants that for some schools (northeastern for one) won’t even look at your application if you don’t have their prereqs. I had a friend who had been out of school for a while and submitted 2 professional instead of one academic and one professional LOC and she never heard from the school after submitting. Any chance you didn’t do one of the prereqs? Or had to many in progress?

Thanks for trying to help and talking me through some possibilities as to why I may have not heard anything yet. I just reviewed Simmons website again and the letters of rec that I submitted I am most certain are not the problem. I am still in school (undergrad) so my recommendations all come from academics (class instructors), research, and mentors. The only thing I can possibly think of is that for Simmons they state one of their requirements is a 3.0 in prerequisites. I had reached out to them prior to applying because I got a B- in inorganic chem lecture (but an A- in the lab). When I called them about it they said it should not be a worry and they still consider applicants who may have slightly lower than a 3.0 in prerequisites if they have an overall GPA well above 3.0. This fall I took Physiology and Nutrition as prerequisites, but Simmons doesn’t consider Nutrition as a prerequisite. I reached out to Simmons via email yesterday about not receiving an email about my application being received, so hopefully I will hear from them soon. I plan on submitting an academic (transcript) update with my fall grades in NursingCAS soon and then also reaching out to Northeastern in addition to Simmons to confirm the update is received and will be considered. I heard from Northeastern a few days after the application deadline to clarify that I will have Microbiology in progress in Spring 2020 because they didn’t have that information from NursingCas because they don’t use the transcript entry tool and my spring semester enrollment didn’t show up on my official transcript. I had Physiology and Nutrition in progress in Fall 2019 (just finished them successfully) and will have Microbiology in progress in Spring 2020. Besides those courses, I have taken almost every medical/nursing prerequisite known to man... lol! ? Undergrad has been an adventure, but I hope to move on soon and get these NursingCAS issues with both Northeastern and Simmons over with soon with a good result!

Last Monday I received an email from the FNP director that she wanted to schedule a phone interview sometime last week. I emailed her back twice (once on Monday and once on Wednesday) to set up times and have still not heard a response. I figured I'll give her some time, and reach out again after the holidays, but I thought it was a little weird that she wanted to schedule a phone interview last week and then never got back to me.

Did anyone else experience this? I don't want to be pushy, but I've already seen some people being accepted and others not getting in so I'd like to know what's going on!

It took her a few days to get back to me regarding an interview date/time. I emailed confirming she was ok with my choice date and time the day before it and she confirmed then. Id try one last time next week after the holidays as you said. I wouldn't be worried, they are interested in you enough to interview you they aren't going to ghost you ?

Hi Everyone! I also applied for the FNP track. I have not heard anything from Northeastern so far. For those of you that received interview invites can you tell us a little bit about your background? Work exp, new grad, masters, volunteer exp, stats etc.

I am still in undergrad and concerned my lack of experience will negatively effect my application:(

hi all, I applied for psych mental health track in early November. Haven't heard anything back at all so far -- looks like they are going by specialty I hope? Has anyone who applied for PMH track heard anything?

Nothing as of yet for PMH. But I currently have my hands tied. Schools like Hopkins and Regis are already requiring their deposits soon *sigh*

I went to BU, graduated in 2018 with a BS in Human physiology and a minor in public health. I am a certified EMT (did the summer after my freshman year). My GPA was average, i think maybe a 3.1 in undergrad but a 3.3 after taking some prerequisites that weren't offered in my degree program. I had A's and A-'s in my prereqs but did get C+'s in chemistry early in my schooling. I went abroad for a semester and spent 4 months as a research intern while there, and my senior year internship was at Tufts working as an ekg tech in pedi cardiology. I did not do any shadowing or volunteer work (listed in my resume atleast, i was crammed for space but I did add minor things to nursingcas). The big thing for me is that I've done as much medical experience as I can. I worked for BUEMS part time for 2 years during school. I also worked part time as a medical assistant at BU's student health center for 2 years. After graduating I started working right away as a medical assistant at a primary care practice. I basically talked about how the experiences showed me what each health care roll can do (not just nursing), how much administrative work there is to medicine, and how the experience has proved that FNP is for me. I made strong connections with the Doctor I work with to get extra work experience through him (hes the medical director for our clinical research department and is currently trying to implement teaming/team based care in primary care sites at over 30 locations within our company) and talked about how this person has empowered me to learn and grow in my medical education (ex: treats me like a medical student and colleague, and not as a secretary). Working with this provider for about a year he got to know me well and he wrote a strong LOC, as well as one of the NP/PCP's that works with us. I also live with my terminally ill father in law and am involved in some of his home based nursing care (personal care, feeding tube flushes) and talking about how that gave me an appreciation for the patient perspective as well. I really sold myself in my statement for the things I have done but also stated that I know there can be areas of improvement within healthcare and that I want to be apart of that change. The FNP director said that really resonated with her, that they want to empower their students to create great clinicians not just to pass boards or get good grades.

I truly think the thing they look most for is passion for the degree. I didnt have straight A's but i am a people person and really pushed myself to make the most out of my work connections to learn the most that i could while working to make up for it. This led to a great resume (employee of the year in college and at my current job 1st year there, and a company wide distinguished award winner with the doctor for advancing team based care), and great LOC's to balance out my average grades.

Improve where you can and focus on work experience. If you're ever offered a learning experience take it with an open mind. I dont think i did anything worthwhile as an applicant until the last year, but knowing how to sell yourself and what experience you do have is really important

I graduated in may 2019 as a double major in biomedical engineering and psychology from RPI. my GPA overall was a 3.3. I got As and Bs in prerequisites with a few Cs in organic chem 1&2 and upper engineering courses. I submitted my gre scores because I had already taken them for other programs and they were good (Verbal-164, Quant-168) For my study abroad I did an internship abroad at a government conservation department. That experience didn't directly translate to healthcare but I developed surveys and interviewed the public, so I talked about how the experience I gained would be helpful in a medical setting-working with a wide variety of individuals, similarities between strict gov regulation and hospital/insurance policies, and how to handle that. I coordinated blood drives, a be-the-match event, and organized the relay for life at my school. I've been working as a medical scribe since september, so by the time I submitted my application I had just started. I shadowed a few NPs and I've been a make-a-wish volunteer since I was in high school. I had strong LOC from professors, even one who I did poorly in her class. I don't think grades or the quantity of experiences are that important, instead how the things you have done tell a story as to why you want to be an NP and the things you have learned along the way. I agree that they look for people with a strong passion for this career and are more interested in the person than a laundry list of random experiences.

I wouldn't worry too much at this point. Once the directors have heard back from acceptances/declines for the initial interviews (theres always at least a handful that will decline) they will continue to interview/accept people until they fill their desired class size which usually doesnt' happen until late march/april.

Thank you Maggie & Ella for sharing your background and encouraging words! Fingers crossed they are not done with acceptances.

Hi everyone, Thank you for sharing your story with us maggie.

for anyone that has been accepted and is paying the deposit, have you had issues with the portal to pay? Mine is due 1/6 and the office is closed until 1/1 So I’m waiting for them to open back up to answer my email. It should show your admissions letter and a button to accept and pay but mine shows as no application

I had my phone interview on Monday and it went really well! It definitely made me more interested in the program. She said I should hear back sometime next week, so fingers crossed.

How do you feel about the fact that the MSN portion is mostly online? I'm torn because I feel that this will be convenient when working as an RN but I feel like I learn better/have a better connection with professors when classes are in person. I'm trying to find some reviews from current Northeastern direct entry students to see how they're liking the program, but haven't found any yet.
