where in north carolina?

HI fellow nurses,

I need your help. I'm from new york and we are considering of moving either tampa or north carolina. Since i have no clue where to go, can you suggest a country or city that you think you will choose to live if you have a family, houses between 100-200K and near good hospitals? We're considering the wake county in raleigh or Bennington in DUrham. What do you guys think?

The point I'm trying to make here is what CarolinaPooh made very clearly: stop giving Durham a horrible rap. Don't drive through 5 blocks and blanket the whole city under generalizations. It's a wonderful place to be! Come see for YOURSELF.

(Where's all this trash lying around that someone mentioned? I can honestly say that confused me....sure, there's some dirt downtown, but go to south Raleigh and you'll find the EXACT SAME THING.....not to mention that my friend had her car broken into right in the parking deck of Crabtree Valley Mall last year - which is in a very nice section of Raleigh...so crime happens everywhere!)

Have you considered Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, North carolina? It is only 1 hour from Virginia Beach and 1 hour from the Outer Banks(which is beautiful). Elizabeth City is growing and it is an exciting place to be now. People are friendly and I think starting pay for RN is 18. and hour... Checkout the hospital website at Albemarlehealth.org. Housing is higher than normal but you can still get a great deal either downtown or new.... Just have to search a little.. Let me know if you have further questions... dakcw

Hi there.. I am a travel nurse also. I have mainly been up in the northeast and MD. I was surprised by how much lower my pay was in MD than in MA(almost 10/hr less). I am curious as a traveler, is your pay decent in NC?
