Hospitals Reputations and Driving Distance

Good morning, or evening. I'm a Registered Nurse from Louisiana with six months experience on a Cardiovascular Step-Down and patient overflow unit who graduated with an ADN in May of 2013.

I'm planning to relocate to Raleigh around April, or maybe a little later depending on how long it takes to find a job. I'm applying everywhere and intend to keep an eagle eye on job listings regularly, but I wanted to ask people who already live there where they prefer to go when they're ill themselves? That was the major question for me when I got my current job, and I'd like to go somewhere that actually treats their patients well most of the time.

Also trying to find out what hospitals are in that area and how far away they are. An internet search only does so much. I'm planning to live in Raleigh, but right now I'm used to a 45-60 minute drive from home to work. Hoping for another cardiac position, but wouldn't mind medical-surgical either.

Any input would be greatly appreciated! Please have a good day and thanks for your time.

Thank you!

I've only lived/worked here for about 6 months, but I'm currently at Duke Regional in Durham. I have friends that live in Raleigh and work in either Durham or chapel hill so duke or unc would be good options! Depending on where you live in Raleigh, it should be between 20-40 minutes to either place :) My roommate works on Duke's cardio/thoracic step down and really likes it whereas my other roommate works at unc's cardiac step down and likes it too! Good luck!

hofamb, how do you like Duke Regional? We are hoping to move to Raleigh this summer and I am a L&D nurse with 6mos exp and it's on my list....so far not seeing anything open yet.

Ive been at Rex Hospital in Raleigh for a long time. Great birth center. Check it out.

Somewhat discouraged. :/ UNC says they absolutely won't consider applicants with under a year's experience and lack of hearing out of anyone else is making me wonder if it's the general consensus up there. My available start date would mark nine months. If that doesn't matter to them, any suggestions?
