No new grad positions in Boston hospitals

Published

Has anyone else heard this? I was talking to a staff member in our staff development office who told me that most Boston hospitals aren't hiring new grads right now due to budget cuts and overstaffing...she said that most new grads are looking at community hospitals in the surrounding areas.

Was I misinformed?

If you live in Arizona maybe you should consider California. If may area hospitals always hire new grads.

I'm not crazy about Ca, actually. The housing costs are still absolutely insane and we don't have any family there. All of my in-laws are in Mass and I know my husband misses them, so we're pretty set on Mass.

Actually, you would be surprised if you knew that cost of living in Boston is comparable to that in San Francisco, only salaries in Boston are twice lower then in SF and no fixed nurse-to-patient ratios.

Is it possible to commute from the Boston area to parts of RI? It looks like it could work on the map, but I'm not from the area so I dont know how long it would actually take.

We probably would never actually live in Boston, rather the suburbs. And I really do love northern california, but I'm just not sure it would work for us, especially since we don't have any family there. But you never know! San Francisco is such a great city!

Hey Wahine! I grew up in Medway, MA which is a doable commute to both boston and providence (thats actually how it got its name: Midway! or so I'm told). It's a growing little town and great for families. There are other nearby towns that may have what you're looking for. I'd love to help if I can!

yes 245 its possible ..... you could actually go from one end of the state to the other in one hour. It crazy....alot of people live in RI but work in Boston or worcester or even CT. Where I am located in Northwestern Ri I could get to CT border in 15 minutes Boston mass in 1 hour and worcester mass in 45 minutes...

ps. I have heavy foot on the peddle too

Thanks for the info, LittleWing. I am super excited about being able to move once I graduate. New England is so beautiful and 4 seasons... well, that will definitely be new to me, that's for sure! It's 108 out here right now and I am so tired of it.

Anyways, we have some time to make decisions and plans since I'm not due to graduate until December.

What's the process for getting reciprocity in RI for someone licensed in MA, and how long does it take? Also, where could I find out which RI hospitals are closest to Worcester? If the situation is that much better down there, I'm wondering if I should see what's just over the border and try it.

Just look at the BON site requirements for endorsement

Angie, it would be a good idea to post that question under the Rhode Island post they are alot of nice people with alot of information....Its too bad Mass and CT arent part of that compact state liscensure thing... RI state just joined but there are no states nearby that are apart of the agreement.
