No new grad positions in Boston hospitals

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Has anyone else heard this? I was talking to a staff member in our staff development office who told me that most Boston hospitals aren't hiring new grads right now due to budget cuts and overstaffing...she said that most new grads are looking at community hospitals in the surrounding areas.

Was I misinformed?

I havent heard any dire stories...everyone that I know that graduated found jobs immediately.... I hear the hospitals are deperately looking for new grads........

Tiny Tessa, did you go to school/do you work in RI or Boston? Where?

Thanks!

No....Pre-nursing student still taking prerequisites at CCRI in RI.

Specializes in Family Medicine, Outpatient Pediatrics, IBCLC.

Tinytessa- There are certainly graduates that have been able to get jobs (most were probably internal applicants). However, many MANY graduates are having a difficult time. It is a bit disheartening (and almost insulting!!) when we hear: Oh there's a shortage, you shouldn't be having a problem at all.

THERE ARE NO HOSPITALS IN EASTERN MASS "DESPERATELY SEEKING" NEW GRADS

Sorry, and I would LOVE if someone could prove me wrong (please do!!). I have done very well in college (for both my BS and ADN) and have not been offered even so much as an interview in Mass. Many of my classmates are in the same boat.

That being said, I just took an RN position in North Carolina (they called me the morning after I applied). They are seeking new grads, if you can move- do it! Any new grads interested in NC, send me a PM. I would love to tell you about how amazing my new hospital has been to me so far. I really have worked too hard to have to beg for a job.

The same story here. After searching and applying in Mass for 3 month, just moved to Cali and got two job offers the next day! My hospital start new grads at $34/hour.

Congratulations LittleWing on the new job in NC - if there aren't any hospital jobs in Boston for new adn grads in 2 years I will be looking south myself.

Tinytessa- Don't you "pay attention" me, missy..I'm done with school!!! :p Anywho I don't think it was really clear in your post, it looked like you were responding to the post above..someone asking about external applicants having good news. I shall attempt to edit accordingly.

Wow congradulations:up: Promin

Ok, so it sounds like RI hospitals are still actively hiring new grads? I mean, that may be an option for me if we need to move out there immediately after I graduate. Something to definitely think about!
