No call No show ?

Published

Whenever my DON needs shifts covered she will send out an email and the nurses are able to pick up extra shifts. Normally we send her an email saying we are available and then she would send us an email to confirm the shift. Last week she sent an email with shifts that she needed covered for this week and I emailed her back saying I was avail for today. However, she NEVER confirmed the shift with me which normally means she has it covered. She also does not post the nursing schedule until Monday which means I last worked Sunday and had no idea she put me on the schedule to work today. She had the other nurses call me to see why I haven't came in and I told them the reason which was she did not confirm the shift. I just hope this does not count as a no call no show in my record. I have NEVER did a no call no show in my whole over 1 year as a nurse. This would not be fair to my colleagues or patients.

If she never responded, you cannot be held accountable.

If she typically confirms by email and didn't then you should be in the clear. Sounds like she forgot to email you to let you know so it's on her.

I agree, If she did not confirm the shift you cannot be held accountable. How can you be somewhere where you weren't informed you had to be. You should be fine.

I would inform the DON that if she cannot produce an e-mail with confirmation notification to you that you were definitely scheduled for the shift, then your attorney would like to know how the DON has determined that you were considered as absent for that shift?

Don't let her BS you by saying that she sent it......your internet provider can provide proof of delivery.....or absence thereof.

Thanks for the replies. I knew I wouldn't be held liable but was still paranoid. I have yet to hear from her so I guess I'll find out when I go to work if there are any consequences.

If they try to write you up I wouldn't sign it and make that clear right from the start. This isn't your error. You should suffer ZERO ill consequences. I'd go down swinging on this one.

Next time if you don't hear back by the day before the shift I'd just give them a quick call and confirm whether you are scheduled or not.
