NNAS process

World Registration

Published

Hello everyone, I am new to this website.

I've found some information about the nnas process but all the information is quite old and also I couldn't find anything about a successfull NNAS application.

I just finished sending all the documents to NNAS so I have a few questions for you, hopefully someone can help me..

1) How long does it take nnas to issue an advisory report after submitting all the necessary documents?

2)What happens if I am "not comparable"/ "somewhat comparable" or "comparable"?

3)Have any of you went through a "competency assessment"? If so, could you tell me more about it?

4) Have any of you taken the NCLEX? How did you prepare for it and overall how difficult is it?

5) Have any of you applied to a nursing college even after being deemed "not comparable" or "somewhat comparable"? Is that possible?

Please tell me what NNAS has written on your report and what you did as a consequence!

Have a great day and thanks in advance to whoever will answer!:cat:

(Ps: I've got my nursing degree in Italy.)

I did! I finally got my NNAS report back a few months ago, and got "comparable". Ive applied to the BC board and they needed re-verification from the California board. That was sent off by Ca March.20th so they should receive it any day. The lady I spoke with in BC said after they receive that, I should get my license, as its extremely unlikely for a US educated nurse to need to do an in person simulation/exam. Ive paid all the fees and am just waiting. We plan to leave as soon as I can find a job in the area we want to move too, hopefully in June.

Soo did any US educated nurses end of having the requirements to practice in Canada through NNAS?

It took awhillllle... 2 years from the thought to the applying to the acceptance, but Im finally almost holding my new license.

I did. NNAS gave me a "comparable" report, and I have already been talking with Interior Health, while I wait to get my license in British Columbia. I am just waiting on my home state to send license verification and then we are almost ready to move.

Hi NewNurseRN15

Need your help, I am US educated ADN, BSN and struggling with NNAS.

My worry is how detailed the course work has to be to meet NNAS standards.

Appricateyour help

Thanks

I sent hundreds of pages. I was able to contact an old classmate who had kept every course syllabus, and then the course description book provided by the school which detailed every course. The more detail the better.

Hey there,

thanks for coming back to post this update. I too am a Canadian who is living, working, and about to complete my RN-BSN in the states. I’m just trying to be cautious of which school I choose to complete my BSN because I wanted it to be accepted in Ontario in the event that I decide to move back. I’m considering Western Governor’s University for my RN-BSN. Is there any advice that you can give me...have you heard of schools that have a reputation of being accepted by NNAS for the RN-BSN? What suggestion can you give me for the application process?

thanks!!

Did you train as RN in Canada? Reason I ask is I did my BSN online and went I told the College they didn’t want to see proof as already registered and working as RN and told me just to change status when renewing license at year change

I completed my ASN to become an RN in the United States. I am now looking into doing my RN-BSN in the states also.

I’m not sure I understand what you are saying...did you do your RN and BSN in the states and then apply to become an RN in Canada?

I moved to Canada with a RN diploma from the UK. Whilst living in Canada I did my degree online with a UK university and once completed I contacted my provincial college once completed and they just told me when I re-register for the following year to put degree instead of diploma

Oh ok. Thanks for your response but I have a couple follow up questions;

1) So When you initially moved to Canada did you work as an RPN?

2) the degree that you completed with the UK university online, was that a 2-yr associates degree or a 4-year bachelors?

3) what do you mean when you say you contacted your “provincial college?”

I worked as a RN. I had a diploma from the UK for RN. I completed my BSN online and took me 3 years. Provincial college = the college of RN for my province as they are responsible for monitoring and maintaining license enabling you to work as a licensed nurse

OK thanks for the answers. May I ask how long ago it was that you moved to Canada and earned your BSN?
