Does anybody have any experience with NNAS? So far, I've read the site but it would be great to hear from people who have gone through the process :)

HI

Could you share the resources please ? I have to pass NCAS .is IENCAP is the same thing?i am a international nurse and have non comparable result and told to do NCAS

Yes it's pretty much the same exam. The handbook is the same. You can find it on Touchstone Institute's website. http://www.touchstoneinstitute.ca/Touchstone/media/Orientation/IENCAP-Participant-Guide.pdf I think there is a thread about NCAS on this forum. Just search for NCAS in the top right corner of this webpage and you should find it. I think that's where we offered some study ideas.

The provinces have different names for their IEN competency exams, BC has NCAS, Alberta & Ontario use the same assessment provider (Touchstone Institute) although in Alberta the exam name is ARNAP and Ontario the exam name is IENCAP, Sask, Manitoba and Nova Scotia use a SEC assessment. No matter what the name of the exam or who the exam provider is, the exams are based on the national competencies in the context of entry-level registered nurse practice and the expected knowledge, skill and ability is the same for each of the competencies no matter which province you are in.

Sorry, can I ask you if it's mandatory to have few work experience before starting the process with nnas. Because I'm a nurse student on my last year, I already have a Canadian tourist visa , I plan to start the process right after graduation and then continue within Canada . I am really concern about this'. It is not even easy here in Italy find a job quickly . Thankyou

Does anybody know when is the nclex rn taken

After the nnas report , or after the college of nurses one ? Or is the last step ? Can be take. Outside Canada ?

Only once the college says it is ok. Yes can be taken outside Canada. Be aware NNAS is a long process

It is no longer mandatory to have nursing work experience HOWEVER, this means that the process might be even longer or more difficult for you. Right now, some applicants have the option of submitting information from their employer about their nursing work experience if they have been deemed non-comparable to Canadian standards. This information can be used to allow them to be deemed comparable in the end and not have to do IENCAP exam or bridging program. But since your education is likely to be deemed non-comparable and you do not have nursing work experience to use to prove yourself, it is almost certain that you will have to do the IENCAP exam or the bridging program. Bridging program is, like I said, hard to get into as there are few spaces and many people waiting. IENCAP exam is $500 and you can only do the exam once.

@casoclinico, if you do not work after graduation, keep in mind that you will only have three years from the date of completing your nursing program before your proof of recent practice expires. It can take a year to receive your NNAS advisory report, and can take eight months before you take the IENCAP, then it make another eight months to clear the NCLEX. If you run out of time for proof of recent practice, you will be directed to undergo a bridging program (possibly the 20 month York University). Since the licensing process is time consuming and you will not be able to work in Ontario without a work visa or permanent residence (more likely) and a nursing license, you will be spending a lot of time doing nothing, if you remain in Italy while you undergo the application process and work at any RN job you can find, you will be better off.

My partner and I are trying to immigrate to Nova Scotia. The ONLY THING holding up our immigration is the verification of her nursing experience. She is an ER nurse, educated in the U.S., she has a BSN, she's been in practice for 9 yrs. THIS IS INSANE!! I feel like something must be done to change this process. I just wish we had SOME kind of way to log our complaints to Canadian immigration. They need nurses, so why are they making it SO difficult? I understand that everyone must be evaluated, make sure they're in good standing and well educated, but this is really ridiculous. I feel like our whole lives are on hold because a bunch of people in PA are following a flawed system that takes FAR too long. **weeping** Thanks 2 all for posting....depressing, but interesting read!
