NNAS experience?

Published

Does anybody have any experience with NNAS? So far, I've read the site but it would be great to hear from people who have gone through the process :)

@parasol, I haven't seen anyone post about their NCAS experience yet, but there are study suggestions on the NCAS website with sample questions and simulations. Also consider looking at resources that are on Canadian nursing regulatory body websites and IEN competency assessment providers such as;

CARNA-professional resources case studies, 10 videos on What nursing is like in Canada topics include Discharge Teaching, Culturally Sensitive Issues, Inter-professional Team, Communicating, Patient Refusal of Care, Total Assessment, Code, Advocating for Patient Rights, Reporting Errors.

Try to gain a deep understanding of the National Competencies in the Context of Entry-Level Registered Nurse Practice (2014) document. Review the entry to practice document thoroughly, search BC's college of nurses for case examples (CRNBC/ nursing standards/case studies and practice resources). Reviewing regulatory bodies case examples will help you to understand how to apply the competencies to the scenarios. It will also help you to understand why you should respond to clinical scenarios in a certain way. There is a lot of information on CRNBC that is helpful to understanding the Canadian nursing practice, it is worth your while to spend time reviewing their website.

Practice doing physical assessments and taking histories, ask family and friends to help by role playing the patient and the assessor, use Carolyn Jarvis Physical Examination and Health Assessment Canadian edition textbook or the pocket companion, also review nursing assessment youtube videos.

Hi, Thanks for replying :-) Those resources are great, thanks! A couple of them I haven't heard of at all so will certainly be using them, particularly the case studies. I've ordered a couple of nursing text books off eBay to the UK which were suggested on the NCAS website, which surprisingly have arrived already.

It would be interesting to hear about what NCAS is like if anybody eventually posts about it. I was relieved to discover that it is only a 6 hour clinical assessment rather then the 5 day assessment it used to be when it was SEC. Seems much more reasonable.

If you got response about this then please let me know too

same situation as you .i had horrible Anna's assessment and not comparable :(

I am wondering if anyone on this thread has ever received an email from NNAS requesting that they fill out any sort of customer satisfaction survey. The reason I am asking is that in their latest Annual Report (2015-2016), NNAS states that 92.5% of customers (applicants) are satisfied with their NNAS experience, up 3.5% from (2014-2015). I completed my NNAS process a long time ago now and did not ever receive a survey opportunity. Since I have not met anyone who has had a satisfactory experience with NNAS, I wanted to put this out there to see if anyone else had received the survey.

If you did receive the survey, could you tell me:

1) approximate date (ballpark)

2) what point you were at in the process when you received it (ie after you just paid, after you just submitted documents, or after your Advisory Report was issued)

3) what your result was (comparable, somewhat comparable, or non-comparable), if you have received your report.

If you did not receive any feedback survey from NNAS, please let me know that as well.

Thank you kindly for helping out with this!

I never received a survey

I am at the NCAS lab simulation stage and my result is non comparable .i started my assessment on april 2016 and its may 2017

Look where i am now..totally dis satisfied from NNAS and CRNBC

I am an international nurse (rn) from india

Some if my friends never had to do IELTS or competency but i have to ..biased

Nope, no survey request here either.

Hmmm... I wish I could say I was surprised. I also wish I could say that I was surprised that NNAS head office in TO hadn't responded to my inquiry. I will be persistent though. With the government dollars that went towards the creation of NNAS, I think it's more than reasonable that questions from the public be responded to. There needs to be some accountability.

Thanks to those who responded. Anyone else receive or not receive an opportunity to participate in a satisfaction survey from NNAS?

Thanks.

Question:

Anyone who got "somewhat comparable" from NNAS? How did CARNA respond to this report?

If you use the search tool in the top right hand corner, you can find a thread by poster 'jacknjill' entitled 'Nurses please read this NNAS CARNA...

It seems like based on their thread, that they may have had a not comparable result (I'm not sure). Also, things have changed since they applied to CARNA, as they said in their thread ' not to do the SEC' but the SEC is no longer available, it has been replaced by ARNAP starting June 2017.

This is an article from CARNA:

"On September 26, 2014 CARNA Provincial Council passed the motion to retroactively recognize all passing NCLEX-RN results back to 1982. Effective immediately, if you passed the NCLEX between 1982 and present day, you will be considered to have met CARNA's exam requirement for registration. You will not be required to take the NCLEX again.

In response to the feedback we have received, we encourage interested international applicants to refer to all the registration requirements for IENs.

Passing the registration exam is only one requirement and this alone does not enable you to practice in Alberta."

So I guess passing the NCLEX gives you a step ahead of everyone else who still needs to take the exam.

Yes exactly. It's one less requirement to meet! Soon Alberta will add Jurisprudence also. Don't worry though, in Ontario anyway, it was a fair exam and as long as you prepare for it, it's perfectly okay.

Thanks @iggsling23

Congrats on the somewhat comparable report!!!! Where did you receive your nursing education? That's awesome, I think CARNA will respond positively.
