NNAS experience?

Published

Does anybody have any experience with NNAS? So far, I've read the site but it would be great to hear from people who have gone through the process :)

Thanks @iggsling23

Congrats on the somewhat comparable report!!!! Where did you receive your nursing education? That's awesome, I think CARNA will respond positively.

Thank you for your kind words RN_Pro. I received my nursing education in the Philippines. I graduated in 2009 so it has been a while. I wonder if my LPN hours will be good enough as safe practice hours? Crossing fingers here.

Hmmm... I'm not sure about that one @jiggsling23. Did NNAS say you were somewhat comparable to RN? Or to LPN/RPN? If RN, I'm not sure those hours will count or not. A quick call to CARNA should be able to clear that up though.

This is the first I've heard of ARNAP for AB. I know BC switched from SEC to NCAS earlier in 2017. Both Alberta and Ontario's assessments are offered through Touchstone right? Are they essentially the same? Should this level of assessment not be the same from one province to the next with province-specific jurisprudence exams? Very interesting! 🤔

Yes exactly how it should be, I agree nicu_gal

I read over the ARNAP Participant Guide and it's almost the exact same verbatim. The expectations for the exam are the same since the competencies are the same. Only difference is, in Ontario it now costs $500 and in Alberta the exact same exam costs $1900. One should think that now that Ontario has essentially 'piloted' the exam, it would be cheaper to run for the next province who signs up to use it. But, such is the problem when assessments are farmed out to private for-profit corporations.

I have a query. Is it necessary to provide ielts(Passing Language Score) result before getting advisory report? Under required documents list "Passing Language Score" is listed. I applied Newfoudland (ARNNL), BC (CRNBC) & Nova scota (CRNNS). But my ' Passing Language Score' coloumn shows ' Ready for Evaluation'. Can i get advisory report with out IELTS if i request ? or will they definitely ask language result before issuing advisory report. I am Indian nationality.

It is the same exam, the difference in price between provinces is because the IENCAP is partly subsidized by the Ontario provincial government, whereas the ARNAP is not subsidized by the Alberta government.

Ask NNAS, I think it may depend on the requirements of the province you are applying to. I believe some provincial regulatory bodies want the IELTS results assessed by NNAS for authenticity before you apply to the regulatory body.

Some like Ontario, may not ask for the IELTS before application, because it can take a long time for an applicant to meet all of the licensing requirements (complete a competency assessment, pass NCLEX etc) and the IELTS may expire during that time.

But my 'Passing Language Score' column shows ' Ready for Evaluation' without submitting my IELTS score. What does it means?. I already passed NCLEX RN.

Did you ask NNAS what passing language score, ready for evaluation means?

Hi all,

The minutes from the March CNO Council meeting were posted (finally, 3 months after the meeting--I wonder why they never post the minutes of the previous meeting until a few days before the next meeting).

You will notice that they state that NNAS is undergoing a review of the way they do their assessment. They will report back to Council once this is complete. I am unhappy that for two years they insisted that the assessment was fair and valid when it very clearly was not. While I can't take back the hell I have been put through, I am happy that at least now things are being looked at and hopefully things will be better for future applicants. I suspected they were making changes based on the increased number of "comparable" and "somewhat comparable" reports being issued, however there was never any formal admittance until the March meeting. Fingers crossed for future IENs!

I'm glad that the NNAS is finally undergoing review. I was shocked when I first got the report that my BSN education was considered "Not Comparable." My program was 4 years, I started clinicals in the hospital the second semester of my second year.

Anyways, I got the good news that I passed the IENCAPS! So as much as I am unhappy with the currently system for assessing internationally educated nurses, I'm glad that I was able to pass.

Hopefully for future applicants the system is better.
